An employee would not let me enter the checkout line unless I showed her my ID, despite there being no age restricted items in my cart
I was at HEB yesterday buying cereal, milk, and cat food. When I finished shopping I was stopped by an employee who told me I had to show her my ID before I entered the checkout line. If I had alcohol in my cart I'd understand, although they usually wait until they've actually scanned the item before doing that. However, the three items I had in my cart weren't age restricted. A sixteen year old could legally purchase all three of those, given they had the money.
After she saw my ID she let me in, but I was very confused about why I was IDed at all. I've never been IDed at a grocery store unless I was purchasing alcohol or cigarettes. I just want to know what this was all about. Do you have to be a certain age to shop alone in HEB? My partner often comes with me when I go grocery shopping, but they weren't feeling well so I went by myself and sometimes people mistake me for being younger even though I'm over 25.
