Are block builders even worth it?

Hey guys,

So I've been doing some research on block builders for a while, mainly because of my frustration over my personal struggle with building my website using the native Gutenberg builder combined with plugins. I've been working on my header for what seems ages, simply because I can't seem to get it just how I want it. But anyway.

I've read alot about block builders - mainly Gutenberg, GenerateBlocks, Astra, Kadence, Greenshift, Elementor and some others I can't remember at this moment - and the scope of opinions stretches far and wide. One guy says Kadence is the goat, while another swears by GenerateBlocks, as a third swears them all off and promises Gutenberg is simply the best. I've seen people talk about how they've switched from using a paid plugin to going back to Gutenberg because apparently it's getting much better.

Of course, I've also compared pricing. I'm a starter, and don't want to spend a ton of money on a paid plugin if I don't have to. But at the same time, I do wish to spend some if it helps me build the site I want. While one has a lifetime version that you only need to pay once, another has a yearly subscription or even a monthly subscription like Elementor. The monthly subs sound much cheaper, but generally aren't because you'd end up paying the same at the end of the year. ANY sub for that matter sounds like a bad deal, because wouldn't you be stuck with it for the rest of time?

I've been concidering GenerateBlocks for a couple days now, but I've read people saying that while it's very light, it's also limited. I don't want to be (too) limited, that's exactly why I'm concidering a paid builder. But at the same time, I also don't want my site to be too bloated.

So what would you guys say, are paid block builders worth the money for a starter that's quite nitpicky about how the site looks? If yes, which would you recommend?

Maybe some extra information would be handy. What I look for specifically is the following:

  • Monthly and yearly subs are fine if I won't be stuck with them for the rest of my life, and I simply don't want to pay too much. But who does, right?
  • Ease, perhaps. I've been breaking my brains over some things lately and I'm starting to notice it's giving me mental fatigue. Googling a lot, ChatGPT(useless), CoPilot(kinda useful)... But maybe that's just because I'm a starter and I'm only just learning all of this stuff?
  • Not too limited. I HATE running into impossibilities. Impossible for me would be something that can't be fixed without the use of extra CSS, because I don't know CSS. I don't know HTML. Me know mouth words.
  • For some reason I'm incredibly nitpicky about the header, especially the navigation menu. If websites don't navigate right or menus don't open right, I'm out. I love what I've seen of mega menus on some block builders, like GenerateBlocks'.

That's all I can think of, for now at least.
I'm curious about your opinions! Massive thanks in advance.

(I'm off to bed now so if I don't respond quickly you know why. 😄)

How do I disable mobile landscape mode?

I spent a good hour or two trying to make the mobile landscape mode look pretty because it messes my entire header layout up somehow, but I figured I don't even need landscape mode. Who uses websites in landscape mode?

So how do I disable this? I'm using Greenshift's free theme and plugin.

Thanks!

Transparent header on Greenshift theme?

Hey guys,

I'm trying to create a transparent header using the Greenshift theme as well as the free plugin, but I can't really figure out how to.

The only info on this that I can find is outdated and thus incorrect by now.

Do any of you know how to do this?

Thanks!

Good adult server?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for an adult server to play on so that I'm not the only adult in the bunch haha. Goes without saying hopefully, but I'm not looking for anything lewd. Just grownups playing Minecraft.

Do you guys know any good servers?

Thanks!

EDIT: I could've specified a bit more what I'm looking for. What I really like are things like being able to teleport or set homes, and I like being able to make money through jobs and stuff. A stable economy is also lovely. I'm not looking for anything fully vanilla, but nothing over the top modded either.

Hey allemaal,

Thanks!

Hey guys, thanks for all the help so far. I'm new to building websites, to WordPress, to plugins, etc, and the help I've gotten from r/Wordpress has really helped me out so far.

So I've been building my website's header. My navigation menu seems to be acting up. I've set the background color for hovering over a menu item a shade darker, which works perfectly in the editor, but the loaded website seems to make the entire menu the darker shade when I open it.

Bit of a vague description maybe, so I added some screens.

Does anyone know what's going on here?
I'm using Greenshift's free plugin on the Greenshift theme, using the Site Editor.

Probably a horribly nooby question, but I've made a header for my desktop and a header for mobile right under it, and there's this annoying horizontal white space between the blocks that seems to create a white space above the mobile header. How do I get rid of this?

Also, bonus question: I'm using Greenshift's free plugin and I can't seem to find the visibility settings to make the desktop header only visible on desktop and the mobile one on mobile. And I found the sticky option, but it doesn't appear to... work?

Sorry if this is annoyingly nooby.

I was JUST about to buy Gutenverse pro because someone recommended it to me for a specific use of their Mega Menu block, but then I saw someone on Reddit say that Gutenverse is bad. Other plugins were mentioned like Greenshift, Kadence, Stackable, GeneratePress...

Which one do you guys recommend?

What I'm definitely looking for is something similar to the Mega Menu. It supposedly makes it easier to turn the navigation menu into a single dropdown menu.

Thanks in advance!

Hey guys,

So I made a post earlier about something specific I wanted on my WordPress site using the Spectra One theme and the Site Editor. I was recommended a plugin that I've yet to try, but I was wondering something else meanwhile.

I'm considering learning to code CSS, as it seems to offer more flexibility when you're actually capable of coding your website yourself. But before I put alot and time and effort into something I don't know is even worth the effort, I wanted to ask what you guys think.

I've linked the post I made earlier below. Would something like this be hard to code for someone with, say, "decent" CSS skills? And if you were to recommend a way that is according to you the best and/or easiest way to learn CSS, what would you recommend? For experienced coders: how long did it take you to learn CSS enough to be able to code things like this yourself?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I've come to learn that CSS is not code, and that I know nothing. 😔

A screenshot was requested for my last post, but I couldn't add it not put it in the comments. So I'll repost it, with a small screenshot.

The post:

Hi guys,

So I've been fiddling with my website for a while, and so far I've managed to get things the way I like 'em by googling a ton and figuring it out myself. But this... this I can't figure out.

There's this website that I'm using as example, because I really like the looks of it. The site's got a hamburger menu on mobile, which isn't anything special of itself.

The thing is, it's a dropdown. So not a submenu, but one single drop-down menu for the entire navigation bar. AND, AND, it's got text on it.

So for your imagination: imagine a header with a dropdown-menu sort of ''bar'' inside of it at the bottom(with like a 10px margin around it) saying ''make your selection'' or something, and when you click on it, instead of filling the entire space with the menu like the standard hamburger does, it drops down.

If I weren't bald I'd be pulling my hair out by now. How do I do this?

Please help me. Thanks in advance! ❤️

EDIT: shoot, forgot to add some critical info:

I'm using the Spectra One theme and am editing with the Site Editor.

Extra: The site in the screenshot is, as far as I can see, made with Divi. As you can see, it drops down and shows the options instead of filling the entire screen.
