Had an interesting gig tonight, accepted it a couple days ago and learned the setlist the singer sent.

Of course when I get there the band who doesn’t have a guitar player usually had no idea.
I go over the set with the bass player and he says “yea man looks right”. Showtime starts and off the bat there is an entire chunk of music the band is performing without the singer I was unaware of. I fumble through originals and covers I haven’t played or heard in a long time.
Once the singer came on I at least knew what was happening but it took the entire first set to try and gain the trust of the band, and I’m not entirely sure I did.
The bass player after told me to go check out some of the tunes in the intro, real old legendary in this genre kinda guy. I try and keep a reputation of reliable, on time and studied but felt like I had to relearn an old lesson of keeping humble or get humbled.

Any similar nightmarish sub stories?

I’ve noticed this at target in Scott’s Valley and Felton, Morrisey Safeways.
Some context, my partner about a year ago was approached in Target and this lady of some European decent asked for baby supplies, we were new parents she wanted to help. 100 something dollars in baby stuff later at check out they ask for the receipt so they can “pay her back” and leave a number.
Numbers bogus obviously in hindsight.
I was approached today by another European woman at Safeway and she asked for money with a well fed and dressed baby, I get that times are tough but the previous experience just told me no.
Call me heartless but this whole thing seems scammy and perhaps anyone else?
