I met a group of people last time the ship was in town that were thoroughly convinced it was Donald Trump's boat (😐) . Has anyone met the people aboard? Genuinely curious!

Hi Santa Cruz people, wondering if anyone could give me suggestions on this situation I’ve been dealing with:

I am prescribed a generic form of Concerta that I must get refilled monthly, I’m currently using the CVS at Mission Street to get these refills, but every month they find some way to deny me my medication. I know that there’s a lot of legal jargon that people have to go through to get these meds refilled, but I am exhausted and frustrated working with CVS to do this, and by the time they inevitably tell me there’s something wrong with my medication- I’ve already wasted my time going there since they don’t inform me over the phone or text me. The amount of time it takes for me to access my medication is slightly ridiculous at this point- especially with how diligent my doctor has been.

Does anyone have any pharmacies that I’ve worked better for them? I would have preferred a local pharmacy, but it doesn’t seem like there’s any that are super close to me. Has anyone had success at the Safeway pharmacy, etc. please let me know if there are any places that have worked better for you especially if you’re taking medication for ADHD.

I’ve been in Aptos and Santa Cruz since 1980. Don’t ever remember as many crows as I’m seeing these days. Anybody else notice this? What in our ecosystem has changed to support their population?

Hoping for some kind, non-judgmental housing advice from this community, please.

I have an opportunity to rent a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house from a friend. Is it possible to find a roommate for a 3 bedroom house for $2,200/month + utilities? I know-but hear me out. This person and myself would be splitting a large, 2 story house in Felton, close to the entrance of Henry Cowell. This means they would have a whole floor to themselves.

One room would be for my office/guest bedroom, where their family and friends could visit whenever. The house also has a small ADU in the back if they would prefer that-but it's small (with a kitchen though). Backyard is large and has a garden area we can rejuvenate.

I'm hoping to find a responsible person around my age-so 30s, 40s, who hopefully doesn't work from home. Before I decide on taking the place, I have to figure out if I would be able to make this work, or if that isn't a feasible idea. Is this a real possibility?

I live near the Boardwalk and usually there are fireworks going off days before and on July4th. It is, and has been, weirdly quiet. No fences around Seabright Beach and the surrounding streets are not blocked off to cars. Or at least they weren’t around noon.

Did everyone finally understand that fireworks are terrible for dogs and cats and veterans and wild animals? Is it the $1000 fine? Fireworks too expensive? I’m so curious and also grateful.

ETA: well, it did get pretty crazy after dark, but still quite a bit less than years past.

On Commute Dash there is scheduled tree trimming on northbound 17 at the summit. This is the first time I've ever looked up to see if road work will be an issue to consider heading over the hill.

I'm wondering... it says the right shoulder will be closed 9am-2pm. I've missed appointments because of tree work. Does anyone know, if "shoulder" is closed, not "lane" does that matter generally for what kind of delays to expect?.

Who would sign a petition to allow fireworks to be shot off at the beach 1 day only on Fourth of July to allow those who are gonna do it either way can do it safely without risking a fire? Reality is I myself and many others do not care about the laws around fireworks and am gonna do it either way. instead of having to go to the cuts to light them off you allow us to light the, off at the beach and get it out of our systems. would be safer then in the neighbor hood. Let’s see how many downvotes I can get on this post from all the NIMBy wimbys.

This is mostly a rant about how I’ve forgotten there are still pretty shitty people in this beautiful city.

I was walking home on ocean street today around 6, right across from Marianne’s, minding my own business and carrying groceries. I made eye contact with this mid 40/50s(?) homeless White woman that I was passing by, so I smiled and said hello. Suddenly she switched her cigarette to the other hand and punched me in the face, yelled slurs at me, told me that “people like me makes everybody sick” (im asian), did not stop for a second and walked away. I was too shocked and stood there for more than 30 seconds and didn’t know what to do.

I honestly don’t know what the moral of this story is, just like I didn’t know what to say when police called to ask me what do I want after I filed a report. I guess this is just me feeling very sad being reminded the fact that there are still not so lovely people in this beautiful place. ;-;

Can’t eat. Can’t sleep. Just keep walking up and down West Cliff. Driving through the forest. Going on runs and trying to turn off my brain without alcohol. Trying to go an hour without that sinking feeling and the tears.

Every landmark triggers memories. Every place I love in this town I love because the crystal image of her beautiful face is etched onto it. I want to hold her hand and take her to the Del Mar Theatre for another cheesy horror movie. I want to make her laugh and hold her in the cold sand under the moonlight after we’ve both had a long day. I want to jump in the river with her and hug her tightly in the sunlight to get warm. I just want her to shoot me one more crooked smile when she tilts her head and makes it clear that she adores me as much as I adore her.

She’s the girl that I had been looking for. And she made me feel like the man I’ve always wanted to be. And dang I miss feeling like that guy. I miss you, K

Hello, we are staying in Santa Cruz for a few weeks and we want to know if we should go to the Seabright Beach to see the fireworks drone show or should we go to the beach off of the boardwalk? Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
