For those who haven't read the article (https://santacruzlocal.org/2026/04/17/seven-story-affordable-housing-proposed-next-to-palomar-inn/), it's worth a gander.

Like many, I take issue with Coonerty's big tech backing and PredPol inclinations. But donations are legal and being pro PredPol is his opinion to have, I guess.

This, however, is just such an acute conflict of interest, it's hard to spin any other way. Especially with city votes needed to cede part of the land and his paid consultancy.

Just.... yikes.

“I don't know how this body can govern if someone tells untruths, mistruths, exaggerated truths. I don't know how I can make a decision or discern what's right or what's wrong, or even the capabilities of this system if you lie to me.”

> District 4 Board of Supervisors candidate Tony Nuñez started fundraising months later than incumbent Felipe Hernandez, and has a narrower list of endorsements. Nuñez has quickly raised a comparable amount of cash — about $29,000 to Hernandez's $34,000.
> More than half of that money is from contributors listed as supporters of Santa Cruz County Greenway, a nonprofit that supports a trail only on the Santa Cruz rail corridor, or who have otherwise publicly opposed aspects of plans for passenger rail. Most of those contributors listed themselves as living outside the district, in mid-county or Santa Cruz.

I’m honestly surprised that Supervisor Koenig signed on to this as he has a record of diverting money away from Metro and towards roads.

> That is great news given just how much demand there is for transit in our community. In response to the 40% greater service Metro rolled out, there has been a whopping 72% increase in ridership. Most communities see just a quarter of that – on average, a 1% increase in service yields a 0.5% increase in ridership. We’re showing a 1% increase in service yield nearly a 2% increase in ridership. Santa Cruz County and transit were made for each other.

> Now is the time to double down on transit, not abandon it.

> With gas prices approaching $7 per gallon, more transit-dependent apartments being built and an aging population whose best driving years might be behind them, offering fast, free transit is essential to prevent gridlock, adapt to climate change and keep Santa Cruz County affordable. 

> The alternative would be terrible. 

> Landline disconnections could start as early as June 1, 2027, AT&T said.
The complaint against California’s Public Utilities Commission and the state Attorney General’s office asks for a federal court order to declare the state cannot stop AT&T from scuttling landlines. The Attorney General’s office said it was reviewing the complaint. The commission did not respond immediately to questions about the complaint.

I wish I could have been there, but had to work.

Back in August, it seemed like Capitola was finally going to do something about pedestrian safety on Bay Avenue.

Well unfortunately if you judge people on what they actually do instead of just what they say, Capitola residents and the city council disappoint us once again. No roundabouts and another year or so of delays to getting any actual safety improvements implemented.
