I’m 18 what do you suggest I do?

Hi all, I’m 18 and am earning 500€ a week /€26000 a year as a first year in my apprenticeship After all expenses I usually have about €400 a week or more left over. I don’t really know what to do with this money. I currently have 10000€ or thereabouts in savings also. I live very simple life. I don’t drive and although I would like a car I think they are the biggest money pits in this country with insurance and the price of diesel. I rarely go out and even if I do I never spend more than €40. I do a lot of farming aswell (not my farm) a family members in exchange for rent. I rarely go abroad ( it’s just not for me).I feel like It would be a waste of time saving for a mortgage cause a I’m too young and b prices will probably go up faster than I can save. Apart from emigrating when I’m finished the apprenticeship does anyone have any idea what to do with my savings before that. Thanks in advance
Edit: I have a full licence I just don’t have a car.
And I’m doing my trade in the manufacturing sector not construction.

Engineering, college/ apprenticeship or college after apprenticeship?

Hi all, the cao is fast approaching and I’m still completely unsure of what to put down on it. I just want to ask a few questions about the practicality of employment with the options above.

  1. I could study engineering in college and will probs get the points. How far does a level 7 degree get you? (Most are only 3 yrs). Can you achieve as much as someone with a level 8 degree? Can jobs be easily got with only a level 7 degree? Does a level 7 hold up abroad very well? Degree will most likely be from ATU as I don’t think I’d get points for big names unis

  2. My other option is an apprenticeship either fitter toolmaker or fabricator. I complete my four years and I have a good trade training and work ethic at the end. I also have 4 yrs of work experience compared to a college grad who has next to 0. I have the option then of going on to do a degree in engineering part time over 2 yrs. Do you think this route is viable to getting as good as career as someone whose an engineering degree from a top college eg. Limerick, Trinity etc? Do you think my “double qualification” would get me better jobs and opportunities than top college grads? I know the obvious benefits to this are the pay as u earn but I have to think about the long run. I also think this may help protect me from A.I but god only knows.

Just to note the sector I’d want to work in would most likely be mechanical or manufacturing industry. I’d rlly appreciate any advice at all cause I rlly am at a crossroads.

Purchasing a child’s ticket on expressway bus?

I am hoping to book a bus home late at night on expressway. Just like any broke teenager who’s 18yrs old and trying to save money do you’d think I’d get away with purchasing a child’s ticket? It’s route 102 late at night just for reference. I would absolutely not do this but moneys tight. Thanks in advance.

Kodaline Concert Malahide 20th of June , when does it finish?

Those of you going to Kodaline on the 20th of June. What time do you think it will be over at? I’m trying to figure it out so I can book a bus home. Some places have said half 10 but other places have half 8 so I don’t know who to believe. Thanks in advance.

Cheating in the leaving cert?

Is it just my exam centre/ school or is there an insane amount of cheating going on. A lad yesterday was caught on his phone using google translate when the audio started playing at full volume. He was just told to put it away. The same thing. Happened today and he just had to put his phone outside and could continue the paper.
Aswell at that at least 6 people around have notes they brought in and are secretly looking at. Also in the bathrooms people have books just left everywhere to use when they “go to the bathroom”. Mabye this is going on everywhere but it’s a bit disheartening when you put in loads of effort and see the likes of ones cheating who haven’t done a tap.

Any Toolmakers?

Any of you’s that are toolmakers could you tell me what your job is like day to day the pro and the cons? Specifically in a workplace that is predominantly CNC machinery. If you could go back would you do it again? I myself have applied for a toolmaking apprenticeship but am on the fence about it. Thanks in advance

Eels?

Hi all, I am from Leitrim.
Me and my da do regularly go fishing in the local lakes and rivers and catch trout pike perch and roach. We were wondering about catching eels? As you know they are critically endangered so obviously we would return them to the water alive. From what I can gather online they migrate out to the sea towards the Caribbean to continue the breeding cycle in which they get flushed on the gulf towards Ireland where they go through the Shannon to local rivers and lakes. Can anyone give me any advice on what type of bait I would use to catch them? And would rivers or lakes be my best ? I was told that lakes with a muddy silty base tend to have a lot of eels. Thank in advance.
