Severe brain fog after eating + H1 blockers cause emotional blunting. Anyone switched to H2 blockers (Famotidine) or found alternatives?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been dealing with a complex, frustrating cluster of symptoms since around 2016. After doing a lot of reading, I strongly suspect MCAS might be at play. I’m hoping to share my story here to see if anyone recognizes this pattern, and to ask for advice on medications or tips that might help.

My Main Symptoms:

Cognitive/Mental: Severe concentration issues ("brain fog"), anxiety, a constant feeling that my head is "full" or under pressure, and feeling socially awkward purely due to these physical symptoms.
Physical/Muscular: Chronic tension, muscle stiffness, and headaches.
Gastrointestinal: Chronic constipation and a dull, cramping, nagging abdominal ache.
Swelling: Swollen hands and feet, specifically concentrated around the joints.

The Food & Intermittent Fasting Connection:
My symptoms flare up drastically right after eating. Because of this, I practice intermittent fasting in the morning. During my fasting window, I feel absolutely perfect—completely symptom-free, clear-headed, and like myself.
My Awful Experience with H1 Antihistaminica:
After reading through Reddit, I thought histamine might be the culprit and tried several H1 receptor antagonists: cetirizine, loratadine, fexofenadine, and desloratadine. While they all provided some temporary physical relief for the first few days, they quickly caused severe mental side effects. They made me extremely fatigued, completely indifferent, and emotionally blunted/flat. Because of this severe impact on my mood and energy, H1 blockers are definitely not a viable option for me.

My Questions for the Community:
Since my flare-ups are so heavily tied to digestion and H1 blockers ruin my mood/mental state, I’m wondering if H1 receptors aren't my main issue, and if the focus should be on H2 receptors instead.
Has anyone with a similar pattern (post-meal brain fog, joint swelling, and GI issues) successfully switched from H1 blockers to an H2 blocker like

Famotidine?
Did Famotidine help your symptoms without causing that awful emotional blunting and extreme fatigue?
What other medications, mast cell stabilizers (like Ketotifen or Cromolyn Sodium), or supplements have helped you handle post-meal brain fog and gut issues?
Do you have any other tips, dietary strategies, or directions I should look into?
I would love to hear your thoughts, experiences, or any advice you might have. Thank you so much for reading and helping me out!
