The tickets are purchased.

I’m not officially moving to Japan, but I am taking a little trip in September. I quit my job in Chicago, got a travel RN job in Arizona, and I’ll be in Tokyo by mid September. Already making a couple friends and getting some recommendations. I’m excited for the trip.

The best part: I finally know which visas can work for me until I have an RN job. It’s possible to stay 1 year, bust my ass and get fluent, and work on getting a job on base in the meantime.

I know I’m leaving some stuff out. You don’t need the details. Details are boring. One step closer to living alone in Japan. And you’re along for the ride😁

I had the brilliant idea to go to sleep early and it was a nightmare. That’s probably how I came across this crazy idea (still tired and no roommates to bounce ideas off).

I was a travel RN for 8 years. I looked up ER jobs just for fun and wouldn’t you know… Guam has about 8 spots. Guess where Guam is… a hell of a lot closer to Japan than Illinois.

I can still afford to live alone and flights to Japan would be quicker/cheaper. I would still be making x2 what I am now which means more money for Japan also. What do you think, my Livingalone friends? When in Rome or Goodmood, get some sleep?

I work in healthcare and just need to get this out there. If you live alone and work nights... You're probably going to EAT EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME. I do what I can to keep occupied, but 12hrs of nightshift and staying on a night schedule on my days off just makes me constantly hungry. And a little tired all the time also. It's a real struggle to not absent mindedly snack on things and 24hr gyms seem like the only real solution. Oh, there's always food at the hospital and it's never remotely healthy. I gained 20lbs going back to nights during Covid. One month. One friggin month and 20lbs. Yes, I'm typing all of this to stay away from the fridge. Cheers.

I recently posted about learning Japanese. It's been a slow start. I've already cancelled lessons and rescheduled others. Living alone can be tricky with motivation and accountability. That's the biggest point of this post.

You know you want to do something, but there is no external "cattle prod" to get us moving or keep us consistent. Just because the start of your goal isn't perfect, doesn't mean you won't get there. I went from no exercise to jogging a mile easily over the last couple weeks and tonight I just decided to use the treadmill while I went through flashcards.

Keep at it and you'll get there. I know you already know, but it's nice to hear it from another person sometimes. "Some are stars and some are stones, but they are all rocks. And we build upon them."
