My Pick: San Diego Padres +1.5 and San Diego Padres ML (-110) and (+166)

Los Angeles is 0-10 against the run line (0%) and 1-9 SU (10.0%) when Shohei Ohtani starts in road games. The straight up record drops to a perfect 0-9 when the line is greater than -160. At the same time, San Diego has been excellent this season when Randy Vasquez has gotten the start. They're 8-1 SU and 7-2 against the run line when Vasquez is starting - A record that improves to 5-0 SU and 5-0 against the run line at home. The pitcher advantage clearly goes to San Diego here and I'm expecting them to keep that streak going tonight. Considering that, I'll be going with one unit on the San Diego Padres to win this game straight up and another unit on them to cover the run line as well!

San Antonio Spurs @ Oklahoma City Thunder (7:36PM CST)

My Pick: San Antonio Spurs +7.5 (-110)

In recent years, these two teams have gone completely different directions in postseason games coming off an overtime game. Overall, the Spurs are 9-8 ATS (52.9%) in playoff games after an overtime game. Since May 12, 2013 that record has improved to 7-1 ATS (87.5%) and further to a perfect 5-0 ATS (100.0%) when they won the previous overtime game. As for Oklahoma City, overall they're 6-6-1 ATS (50.0%) in playoff games after an overtime game. Since May 15, 2013 that record has dropped to 3-5-1 ATS (37.5%) and further to 2-5-1 ATS (28.6%) when they weren't a double-digit favorite. Since then they've also gone just 2-4-1 ATS (33.3%) after losing the previous overtime game, and that falls to a perfect 0-2 ATS (0%) when the line is greater than -5 but lower than -10. Historically, teams playing conference opponents as a road underdog in the second game of a playoff series are a perfect 9-0 ATS (100.0%) when they played overtime in the first game of the series and won.

De'Aaron Fox is said to be a game-time decision, but it would be great if he plays. In the last game, every single quarter (including both overtimes) ended with either a tied score or with one team outscoring the other by 7 points or less. With how evenly matched these two teams are, I think we'll see this game finish by 7 points or less as well. Considering that and how well teams in general have been in this spot historically, I'm betting one unit on the Spurs to cover the spread and keep this game within seven points.

Cleveland Cavaliers @ New York Knicks (7:00PM CST)

My Pick: Cleveland Cavaliers/New York Knicks Under 219 (-120)

This total opened at 214 and has soared up to 218.5 where it currently sits (219 at most Vegas books). Personally, I don't believe the books would be this far off on a total in a Conference Final NBA game. Although it's a small sample size, Cleveland has played New York on the road twice (April 21 & 23, 2023) in playoff games and both times the game finished totaling fewer than 200 points. I don't know that this game will be that low, but I do know the Cavaliers saw each of their last two games total 219 points or less and the Knicks saw two of their last three total 210 or less. I believe there's value in going with the under here due to all the action we're seeing on the over. DraftKings is showing 83% of the handle and 79% of the tickets on the over and I would say the movement here backs that up. I'll be fading the general public here and going with the Cavaliers/Knicks Under 219 points this evening.

My Pick: San Francisco Giants/Arizona Diamondbacks Over 9 (-115)

San Francisco has gone 3-0 Over/Under (100.0%) in games against the Diamondbacks when Robbie Ray is starting. They've given him excellent run support when facing his former team as well, scoring at least 5 runs in all three of those games. The one time he started with San Francisco in a road game against Arizona, it finished with a final score of 7-2. Likewise, when playing the Giants as a home favorite with Zac Gallen on the bump Arizona has gone 5-1 Over/Under (83.3%) with all six of those games reaching at least 9 total runs. Gallen has also gotten excellent run support in each of those games with the Diamondbacks scoring at least 7 runs in each. When playing non-daytime games as a road underdog against Arizona, the Giants have gone a perfect 2-0-1 Over/Under (100.0%) when it's the first game of a series, both teams are starting the series on no rest, and both teams played their previous game on the road. Once again, all three of those games reached at least 9 total runs. When in that spot as a home favorite, Arizona has gone 8-4-1 Over/Under (66.7%) which improves to a perfect 2-0 Over/Under (100.0%) when their previous game was against the Colorado Rockies. Both of these teams have given their pitcher good run support when facing the other in the past, and historically these two teams have gotten to at least 9 runs every time they've faced each other in this spot. Arizona has now scored at least 4 runs in four of their last five while San Francisco has scored 6+ in each of their last two. Considering the history with these two pitchers, I believe these teams are in a good spot to keep their hot bats alive tonight. With that in mind, I'll be going with one unit on the over in this game.

This game should be pretty exciting as Detroit tries to get a win and even up the series to force a Game 7. Although these two played overtime on Wednesday, I believe we'll see a higher scoring game here. Historically, teams playing divisional opponents as a road underdog in playoff games are 7-2-2 Over/Under (77.8%) when the teams played overtime at home their previous game and it's after the first game of a series. Those teams improve to 3-0 Over/Under (100.0%) when it's a non-daytime game with each of those three games reaching at least 218 total points. Teams also improve to 5-1-2 Over/Under (83.3%) when both teams are playing on one day of rest, and a perfect 2-0 Over/Under (100.0%) when they lost the previous overtime game as a home favorite with both of those games reaching at least 211 total points. Thus far in the playoffs, Detroit has seen eight of their twelve games reach at least 210 total points, including all but one of the five they played against Cleveland. As for the Cavaliers, they've seen all but two of their twelve playoff games reach at least 212 total points this postseason. In fact, the Cavaliers played also played overtime against Toronto in a road game back on May 1st and the following game for them (also played at home) finished with a final score of 114-102.

After starting this series with two games totaling 212 points or less, these two teams have picked things up and scored at least 215 in each of the last three. Going back, teams been heavier towards the over when playing divisional opponents as a road underdog and coming off an overtime game at home. Considering how these two have been playing their last few games, I think there's a good chance we'll see that continue this evening. With that in mind, I'll be going with one unit on the Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers to push this game over the total.

Minnesota Lynx @ Dallas Wings (7:00PM CST)

My Pick: Minnesota Lynx/Dallas Wings Under 178.5 (-110)

We've already seen some high totals (and high scoring games) in the WNBA this season, but practically all of those games have been played when teams were rested, having at least two days off between games. This evening, we're getting a high total in a game featuring two teams who won't be as well rested after having just one day of rest since their last game. Historically, teams playing non-daytime games as a home favorite with a total that's greater than 175 are just 1-12 Over/Under (7.7%) when both teams are playing on one day of rest. When those teams are facing conference opponents we see that drop to a perfect 0-5 Over/Under (0%) with every game totaling 165 points or less. Furthermore, teams playing conference opponents as a home favorite in non-daytime games are 8-12-1 Over/Under (40.0%) when both teams are playing on one day of rest and had two days of rest prior to their previous game. Dallas played one prior game in that spot and saw it reach 173 total points after blowing out their opponent 101-72 back in the 2018 season. But, that record also drops to just 1-5 Over/Under (16.7%) when the team played their previous game at home while their opponent played theirs on the road with all six of those games totaling 169 points or less. It's pretty clear these trends show that teams playing with a high total (175+) on short rest (1 day each) have trended heavily towards the under. On top of that, teams have also trended towards the under when playing on short rest (1 day each) after having slightly more rest prior to their previous game (2 days each), and that's especially true when the home team played at home their previous game while the road team played their previous game away from home court.

Both of these teams are coming off pretty hard fought outings on Tuesday. Dallas played Atlanta and kept it close pretty much the entire time, losing by 5 at the end. At the same time, Minnesota played Phoenix and also kept it close the entire time, winning straight up by 4 as underdogs when all was said and done. I believe that both of these teams will be a bit fatigued this evening and we're actually getting a total higher than it should be. In my opinion, this total should actually be down in the 170-173 range and not the 178.5 it's at right now (up from the its 177.5 open). Of the five times Minnesota has played Dallas as road underdogs in regular season games, they've only surpassed 172 total points once. I don't believe these two teams are in a spot to blow past that tonight, so I'm going with one unit on the Minnesota Lynx and Dallas Wings to keep this game under the total.
