"Hosted by Ben Mankiewicz, this season of The Plot Thickens traces Kubrick’s journey from a curious Bronx teenager—first inspired by a camera gifted to him by his father at age 13—to a visionary filmmaker who redefined the art of filmmaking. Across his career, Kubrick pushed boundaries, challenged censorship, and pursued an uncompromising level of creative control that shaped landmark films including Lolita, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shining, and Eyes Wide Shut.

Drawing on more than 200 newly uncovered and previously unheard archival interviews, the series offers an unprecedented look at Kubrick’s personal life, working methods, and the making of each of his feature films, while also reexamining longstanding myths surrounding his reputation, including the notion that he was a recluse.

The podcast features original interviews conducted by TCM with leading voices in film and culture, including Steven Spielberg, Matthew Modine, Sofia Coppola, Josh Safdie, George Miller, Katharina Kubrick, and longtime Kubrick collaborator James Harris, alongside critics, historians, and authors including Claire Dederer and Jon Ronson."

Talking Pictures podcast, Ben interviews Ron Howard

Ben interviews Ron Howard for his Talking Pictures podcast. Good conversation between the two including some stories that would appeal to classic movie fans: Andy Griffith in A Face in the Crowd, working with John Wayne, and directing Bette Davis. You could tell the two enjoyed talking to each other. Ben said at the end that he'd love to have Howard on again because he still had a list of topics he didn't get to.

"Oscar-winning director Ron Howard tells host Ben Mankiewicz that he feared being “branded” a supernatural comedy director following the success of “Splash” and “Cocoon.” After tapping guidance from his “Happy Days” boss, Garry Marshall, and insight from Frank Capra’s biography, Howard set forth to explore the medium of film in all its genres as a director. He tells Ben about being mesmerized by “Bonnie and Clyde” and “The Graduate” and learning how to work with stars when acting in “The Shootist” with John Wayne directed by Don Siegel. Ron Howard’s Super 8 answers run the gamut from nods to “Project Hail Mary.” and “Eastern Promises,” to “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” and “Blazing Saddles.”
