So the other crab (Coconut) went under to molt on the 13th (I can hear it scratching around at times), and Limey has been slowly coming out more everyday since around the 15th. She’s still in the container with her exoskeleton and damp moss for extra humidity. She has a way to get out (the cholla wood), but nothing else. I’m not sure if she’s even eating the exoskeleton. I’m worried she needs food and water, should I take her out of the container or just let her figure it out?

We got two crabs Friday evening. Both in shells that were too small, so I also bought shells at the store, but they didn’t have much to choose from. I ordered more shells today; they get here tomorrow.

This morning I put the 3 shells in the tank, Limey (pictured) went to them immediately, and investigated all of them but didn’t seem to like any of them, I took her out to measure her shell so I could buy the right sizes (First picture).

Then I went to go check on her right after dinner, and it looks like she molted above ground, and now looks much smaller than before, and the exo is still attached to shell (second picture). At first I thought she moved into another shell, but it’s the same she started with.

She goes have a tank mate (Coconut) who is about the same size. No aggression has been observed, and we haven’t seen her eat anything yet, although Coconut has been eating (he needs a shell change as well, but not as badly as Limey does).

what do I do???

tank temp: 75, Humidity 80

substrate: 5:1 of rinsed play sand and hydrated coconut fiber in a 6 inch layer. Wet enough to keep shape, but not drippy wet.

Crabs currently have shells with openings that are .5 and .75. Bought shells with .8 to 1.6 openings, round and D shaped.

Food: shrimp, starfish, crushed egg shells, fruit/veggie.

I just got our first hermit crabs (2 small ones) for my 10 year old. This is our tank (10 gallons) so far. I’m currently crocheting a wall climbing net out of jute (the tan thing hanging across on the left side is a bamboo and jute ladder I made) and will be getting a digital hygrometer this week. anything we should add or do differently?

They’ve been in here for one day now. Humidity has been reading in the high end (85-90), so we opened the lid for bit, but the gauge we have is just a cheap thing from the store, not sure how well it works, which is why I’ll be getting a digital hygrometer; any brands or features I look for?

We gave them carrots, apples, kale and spinach, and some dried bug and flower mix from snout and shell. Only one has been seen eating so far. Havent seen either go in the water yet.
