It's a little tiring that you have to find those events first before you can show up at a gathering and meet people. I do run into other expats on the street so it's not like we're unicorns, but it's also more awkward than in the west to just walk up to them and chat away lol (I've thought of doing that, but it's not the norm here unless you're a content creator, plus I look entirely too local even though culturally I'm not).

I’ve noticed a lot of expats struggle with everyday things like making phone calls or understanding messages in Chinese. Curious how people usually navigate that?

I’m bilingual and thinking of offering help with this kind of thing, so I’ve been paying more attention to it recently.
