a reviewer measured my folding dice tray and the rolling space was smaller than I thought. how big does a tray need to be for you?

I sew small folding fabric dice trays (GameFancy), about 5.5 x 5.5 inches with snap corners and a removable rigid base. last week a reviewer put a tape measure in one and the free space in the middle was closer to 4 inches, because the soft walls lean in when the corners are snapped. the reviewer was right, I just never measured it that way.

I'm making the walls stiffer now so they stand up straight. before I change the size too I want to ask people who actually roll in these:

  • how many dice do you usually roll at once?
  • do you share a tray with the table or is it just yours?
  • would you take a bigger tray if it doesn't fold as small anymore?

photo is the tray with the tape measure. no links, just want to get the next batch right

I sew dice bags for a living and counted what 44 customer reviews say about your actual collections. you all have more dice than I thought

I run a small two person studio making dice bags. At some point I noticed our review section is basically a census of dice hoards, so I sat down and counted.

Out of 2,300+ reviews, 44 mention real numbers about collections. Tiny sample, I know. But here's what it says:

The median owner brings 9-10 full seven piece sets to a session. Brings, not owns. What people own is always more than what actually travels.

43% say their bag still has room after everything is packed. So it seems like nobody buys storage for the collection they have, they buy for the one they're planning.

The most common phrase in reviews is "well made" (207 times). But the most common story is some version of "I thought this size was overkill and I was wrong within two months."

Market wide, capacities run from little 10 dice pouches to 550+ monsters. Most people I sew for end up somewhere in the 200-300 range within a year or two of starting the hobby.

Full disclosure, all of this comes from my own shop's reviews (GameFancy), so it obviously skews toward people who already decided they needed a big bag. That's exactly why I'm asking here. How many sets do you actually own, and how many make it to the table?

I sew dice bags for a living, and the internet's favorite raccoon deserved his own line. Meet the Jimothy bags [OC]

When Wizards gave Jimothy an official stat block, our studio group chat lost its mind, and then someone said "okay but he needs a dice bag" - and that was that.

So here they are: six Jimothy prints, drawn and sewn in our two-person studio. A sage botanical one where he trots between wildflowers, a stained-glass forest one that looks like a cathedral window commissioned by a trash panda, a pink blossom one for the romantics, and a few more. Round little guy, Compact Frame and all.

Standard build we use for everything: gabardine outside, cotton lining, square base so the bag stands open on the table, about 300 dice if you really commit to the hoard.

Fan tribute, obviously - not affiliated with Wizards or, as far as we know, with Jimothy himself. We like to think he'd approve of anything that stores snacks.

Happy to answer any sewing or print questions. And if you've got a favorite Jimothy moment (the honorary degree? Jimothy Night at the Mariners?) I'm collecting them.

Frogman vs Jimothy — which one goes in the next dice bag collection?

Hey all!

I make handmade dice bags and I'm putting together a new pattern collection. Two designs are fighting for a slot and I'd rather ask the table than guess.

So: Frogman or Jimothy? Which one would you actually want your dice living in at your next session?

And if it's neither — who would you want to see on a dice bag? Drop the creature, class, or theme you've never been able to find and wish someone made. That's genuinely the stuff I want to make next.
