About to start 5BC, any good tips?

Technically, I’ve done a few runs of it already. However, I decided to go back and do runs on 3 and 4BC to level up the legendary forge first. I figured I’d ask here - Is there anything you learned during or after your 5BC playthrough that you wished you had known at the start? Or just anything useful if I’m being honest. I finally switched over to 5BC last night and I’m getting back into the swing of it but dang is it quite a change up.

Tips could be about anything! Routes, malaise, etc. any help is appreciated! :) Bonus question if you feel like answering: If you remember - what loadout did you finish your 5BC run(s) with? I’m curious!

Force shield, is there something I’m missing here?

It says it grants a force field when I use it. But like…I can’t attack or move or honestly do anything while that’s happening. I don’t mean to sound harsh, but is there a point to using this shield? Do any of the affixes even work while holding it up / while the force field is up? Or do they only work when parrying with the shield? I don’t really see a point in just standing still with a force field around me if I can’t use that time to damage anything. I hope I’m making sense and I just am asking if there’s anything I’m clearly missing about this item. Any help is appreciated! :)

How trustworthy is the DPS stat on weapons and skills?

Before anyone asks: Yes, I’ve googled this question. TLDR: Are the DPS stats on weapons and skills accurate in Dead Cells? I’ve heard mixed things online and I want to make sure I know what it means in game. Any help is appreciated :)

I know this has been talked about here before but I ask it since I still don’t know whether or not I should simply “Pick weapon with bigger number over weapon with smaller number.” Of course there’s more to gear than their damage (unless that’s all there is to the options I’m choosing from at a given time), but I feel that when I’ve looked across the wiki learning about different pieces of gear, there have been a few instances when I saw the wiki mention something about the DPS stat being inaccurate (for example: Heavy Crossbow).

Another example from the wiki that had me confused was it giving the tip of using high DPS weapons for The Scarecrow to “out-speed him.” This made me start once again questioning if the DPS stat in-game means something different than I thought it did?

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought I would see kind of a mixed consensus on whether sadist’s stiletto was good or not (which is another conversation in itself) but regardless of what people thought I do believe I didn’t usually see too high of a DPS stat on it whenever I picked it up in game. Again, I’m talking about the literal DPS number on the weapon when you pick it up and in your inventory. Maybe I’m just used to picking up really high DPS weapons but idk. The point is, I’m really just kinda confused now on what the DPS stat on gear means. I get that the number will go up when I collect more scrolls of the matching type and therefore I will do more damage with it.

But in a situation where I must pick between two or more of the same quality items, and one happens to have a higher DPS (with not a much more difficult crit condition than the other items), is it really as simple as bigger number better? Was it just the wording on the wiki page that made me second guess my understanding of the game’s damage mechanics? Because if so pls lmk. But if there’s something I’m missing I’d love to hear it! Any help is appreciated! :)

Question regarding damage reduction on amulets

TLDR: I’ve only been using amulets that have the 75% projectile damage reduction affix and recycling any others I come across. Is this the correct move or nah?

I’ve been playing the game for a decent bit now and I’ve reached 3BC. I should’ve asked this a long time ago, but better late than never. Whenever an amulet drops for me, the first thing I look for is the “Damage from projectiles reduced by 75%” affix. It’s gotten to the point where I almost always recycle an amulet if it doesn’t have the affix (as long as I currently have one on that does have it, regardless of its quality).

Have I actually paid enough attention to see what the difference is like with and without the affix? No. But the damage reduction seems so free to me that I always take it over anything else. Even if it’s an amulet that has some good oil + fire combination on it.

What I’m wondering is: Am I correct in doing this? Or am I mistaken and the 75% damage reduction is actually not that good? I have literally no idea to be honest, so I’m just kind of trusting you guys lol. Any help is appreciated! :)

Side quests, worth watching or nah?

I looove adventure time, both when it was plot-heavy and not. I watched the spin-offs as well and was wondering if this would be interesting. I know I’m probably going to get a mix of responses, but still I was curious as I wasn’t sure if I should know anything before I watch it that would tell me if it would be best if I save my time for something else. As much as I love adventure time, if this spinoff were to have no big plot for example, which I don’t know if that’s the case or not yet, then I think I may pass. However if that isn’t the case then I’m willing to give it a go! If anyone is willing to share without spoiling anything that would be greatly appreciated! :)

Struggling at the bank biome, am I not supposed to be there?

I understand that I can technically go wherever that is accessible to me, but I wanted to ask here to make sure that I’m not missing anything vital for an early game player by not going to the bank. I’ve noticed that any time I go to the bank I end up dying or losing health fast. I believe I’ve only decided to go there three or four times, but I think 2 or 3 of the times I died and at least one time I escaped with not much health remaining (maybe? It’s been a while. I can’t actually remember if I’ve cleared it). All I know is that some of the enemies in there (especially this giant gold one which I think isn’t always big but grows into a bigger form) are brutal compared to the other biomes that the bank could replace.

I’m only on 1BC right now so I am still learning stuff about this game so I want to avoid spoilers, but if anyone knows if I should stay away from this area until I get better upgrades or if it’s just something I have to get good at / learn the enemies’ attacks that would be helpful. I love this game but I don’t want to miss out on stuff if I decide to stay away from this biome for a while and then find out there was something important for me to get in here that I should’ve found early on. Any help is appreciated! :)

Wanting to make sure I’m not going crazy

Hey everyone. I apologize if this has been asked here already. I did a google search but I had a vague memory of the devs doing some changes to this event and I don’t know what all they changed so I wanted to ask here to make sure. It’s about the anniversary event that’s going on. There’s a player title rewarded for completing the challenge: Meta challenge: Decennial Hero. The requirement is to complete 48 challenges. I understand that to get this I would have to do the repeating challenge since there aren’t enough unique challenges in the event.

However, after calculating how many games this could take, I feel as though I made some sort of mistake. I’m seeing that after getting this week’s lootboxes at the start of next week, finishing the basic 8 challenges of next week, and having only the repeating challenge of next week remaining as well as the “ten-year Titan” and “decennial hero” challenges, that makes it so I would have to complete 75-150 games (range depending on if I win or lose).

That can’t be correct, right? Can someone confirm or deny this for me? Any help is appreciated :)

Does upgrading my survival stat actually buff my tonic?

Whenever I pick up a scroll, it says that choosing one of the stats will increase the DPS of objects in that category by 15%, but it doesn’t mention anything about healing. Whenever I pickup a scroll and hover over the survival stat, my tonic is highlighted since it’s a survival power. However, at base, it doesn’t do any damage. It would only damage enemies through additional perks at higher levels of the item. So I’m a bit confused and I’m wondering two things: Does upgrading my survival stat through scrolls increase the amount of temporary bonus health gained and/or temporary damage reduction gained through using my tonic? And my second question is does upgrading my survival stat through scrolls increase the damage of any additional perks that my tonic may have?

Any help is greatly appreciated! :)

Is there any reason I shouldn’t download the free dlc? I’m sorry lol

I figured I’d ask because…well…it’s a separate download and not automatically in the game. I assume there’s a reason for that? I don’t know what it would be, so I’m asking here just in case if it’s okay for me to download it now even though I just started playing the game. I’m not familiar with what it changes.

I can already tell I love the game, so is it a good idea to get the DLC early on? Or can I wait and I’d be okay?

Title basically. I wasn’t sure if I should wait to buy any DLC until I get to the boss for the first time or if it’s okay to purchase the DLCs now.

How do critical hits work?

I just recently started and I noticed that some weapons (I’m not sure if it’s only certain ones or any kind of damage) can deal critical damage (do more damage than they usually do). I don’t know what triggers it though. Is it a certain percentage? And if so…is there a way for me to find it for each of my weapons as I progress in my run? Does it trigger when I hit an enemy from behind? I’m just curious and when I tried googling this I couldn’t find an answer. I apologize if the answer is obvious. Any help is appreciated! :)
