So I have a coworker who is pretty friendly and willing to talk about anything. However, he does have some reactionary perspectives although it's more from a place of ignorance rather than bigotry or hatred. I try to be extremely charitable with him whenever he talks like that.
We were talking about movies and the topic of Supergirl came up. We talked about why it flopped and my co-worker basically said it was because of wokeness, saying that there's no reason why they had to create "a gendered version of Superman as a woman". When I explained to him that Supergirl had been an established character in DC comics for a long ass time, he said he wasn't aware of that. He actually thought Supergirl was a gender-bent version of Superman and not an entirely separate character.
I don't think my co-worker is a moron or anything, but this interaction revealed something to me about the Anti-Woke movement, which is that people who fall for those kinds of narratives only fall for them because they don't have any understanding of the franchises that have "gone woke". This whole time I thought people were calling Supergirl "woke" because they thought female superheros were dumb or something, but it turns out alot of it is just people being ignorant about the properties.
It really makes me wonder how many other anti-woke controversies only happened because people had no understanding of the IPs they were talking about.
I don't have any strong opinions on Fauci, but to bring him back into the spotlight after all this time when prices are rising and war is still raging in the middle east, it's pretty obvious this is a desperate attempt to appeal to the MAGA base to maybe temporarily forget about everything else happening right now.
Even if it was proven that Fauci was this massive boogieman that started COVID, it still wouldn't exonerate the awful response to the pandemic from the 1st Trump administration.
