Be brutally honest, some recent work on the map to make the land look how I want, and some work on the tapestry!

Title essentially, lemme know how bad it looks.

Especially the part of the tapestry the last photos (6/7 and 8) what does it look like, a blob, or something more....

Apologies for any photo compression!

More work to the general coloring and sea tones, and a lil something extra

You'll notice the sea color changes near the end. Yea forgot until the last second and was like, "Oh yea, let's splash some color there"... and I didn't feel like getting rid of the other photos because they do let the lands tones pop more, I think... mabye not.

Regarding the stuff at the end, it's not done, but this symbolizes the invasion and victory at the fields of Kolkahr, followed by the signing of the treaty of Kolkah that took place over entire days and nights.

This is a part of the "early" history of the Elden Isle, the coming of the 'farther people', the war that followed, and the treaty that saw those same people's subjugation.

On some of the heraldry is the signs of the Rose court (the flower), the Knights of Sai'armain (the Circle symbolizing the well of Rebirth), who rallied to the call of the southern Holy Claim (Sun symbol)

Those farther people were the bearers of the Eye symbol banner (the court of Vyez), funded by the Lurkar Family (Crown over a diamond), and the rallied forces of the Lions Pact (Lion symbol, mercenaries) who eventually defected to the side of the Holy Claim when promised lands and treasures... ah good old mercs

Some close ups of a little bit of my recent work

Alright, I've done all the suggestions I could to make sure the photos aren't a blurry mess, and they look good on the preview, so finger crossed... and I'm sorry if these are also a 4 pixel wide monstrosity...

Working on a symbolic mural of the "known" history of my Wyrld, common knowledge of the peoples, from the times of the first voyagers leaving the Olde Isle guided by their Seven "Saints", and then some work at the end where it is supposed to represent the future full of omens "where the seas rise to touch the clouds and those waters shall be given to the things of the deep, full of serpents and teeth".

Then, some general work on the coloring and details, making sure the land has terrain. I hope those details come through and aren't reduced to a single shared pixel... again, fingers crossed...

Ty you to those who take the time to look over this post!

Does this fit for the mts and forests, and the general land colorings

Forgot to post the photo the first time, so here we go again.*

I'm pretty happy with it. It's on the cooler side of colorings, not to in your face, up close the land has details even the poles, didn't put every mnt just the largest peaks and ranges.

Let me know. Should I redo it?

Ty you to anyone who takes the time to look over this post!

Update, now I'm just wasting time on border details cause I don't have to worry about mistakes

Sorry about the picture quality. Last time, I tried a screen capture, and it came out like I left the flash on a camera, just not good quality at all...

Sadly, these are better πŸ˜‚...

Hope you like it, at least from what can be seen between the pixels lol, tyvm to anyone who takes the time to take a peek

About the language on the banners (IF anyone cares for that), it's not based in any language, but when spoken together, it sounds vaguely real? Mabye, I have a loose meaning for the words written there as some appear in my Wyrld like

Dar (or Darr = "curses, evil spells, black magics, et cetera).

Knudd (Kanhud = "Iron will, Lion hearted, Unflinching, usually a northern word relating to "that guy's unstoppable in a fight", some elite warriors of old were often called Knudrani or "stands like iron").

Wie bin (or Wieborne = accursed presence, evil omens, dark force, essentially a word for "evil existence")

(Please don't flame me. These were just quick word ideas and fit for a saying on a banner!)

Figured it was time to start again... again but this time on computer!

Tell me what yall think, mostly just remaking my old map with the ways I really wanted to do it, but without worry of ruining the entire thing....

Yea, I have an issue, I think....

I really like the sun though, kinda looks like a jester or trickster in a way πŸ€” mabye

Second set of symbols and ideas for future ones

I've inked in the other icons for the realms I've played thusly, and while I already have a pretty good idea of what the other icons I'm future will be some are just now perplexing me cause I never gave them one before.... probably because I didn't know what they should be back then as well.

For those ones I have planned for and drawn an example, I'll give a little of my interpretation when making them and what picture they apply too.

I'll go through the photos top to bottom

PICTURE 3 (The River of Time)

The lines running through the realm icons are meant to symbolize the river of time and its flow through the roots of my realm tree.

Each icon is similar but slightly different. From top to bottom, they go as such...

Polaris - future: unshackled by the roots of the tree as they have not happened, but will, though they may change just as quickly

Umbra - present: caught in the roots, trapped in the moment of always possible and forever passing, it is meant to symbolize how I saw the concept of "the present"

Stygia - past: not even in the rivers flow anymore, trapped in truth, it has already happened - no longer capable of change it is firm in its happening like the bark of a tree (kinda dumb and I can't quite put it into words what I'm going for)

Sunless realm - What if?; laying over the river of time, not bound by it, this realm represents every possible, what could of happened has, hasn't, will and will not in this realm, a place of contradiction and thus unbound by time as a concept laying just over the "Incessant Possible" (the sea of stars the roots of the tree lay upon).

PICTURE 4 (the gold fields and the Metal Garden)

Paradox: The realm of paradox will be represented as a wormhole, a gap into something other.

The Gold Fields: This is something that has emerged from Paradox, taking over the realm of the Metal Garden is the endless fields of wheat that make up the Gold Fields, the robotic denizen of the Metal Garden being overtaken by the endless growths that are symbolized wrapping and overgrowning the tree

I don't think this works only because the map of my Wyrld has the trees depicted the same way so I think it doesn't give a "wheat growth" vibe and more a "endless trees" one.

Perhaps anyone has a better idea for depicting these growths

The Metal Garden: Endless seas of rust and Spires of steel, a realm of iron skies and tungsten earth, a place where towering recycling gods turns husks of Metal into endless drones who work in endless toil for purposes unknown.

Now, they are being "devoured" by the golden wheat fields and the things that dwell within them.

Depicted as spikes... and pipes.... yeah, I'm cooked. idk what I'm trying there, but... yea

Hub world: The blob on ink below the tree is Hub World, built of one of those great recycling gods bodies. The denizen of Metal world live in this giant metal realm to hide from Paradox. It wasn't meant to depict the realms form, but then I tried to draw cities in the blob, and it went to heck quickly...

PICTURE 5 (green world)

Green World (realm of life overflowing and tricks): Depicted as a.... fancy leaf...

PICTURE 6/7 (the other other realms...)

Crawling Realm: A realm living and hungry, depicted as a bug devouring the vines of the Crossing (a bridge between realms), it devours infant realms and old realms alike, a actual realm eater.

Malnafus (The Skittering Place): Depicted as a tree branch turning into a snake head, because I just saw a snake in the trees when I looked at it's shape, this realm is a nonsense palce where everything eats one another, like the Hunger (Realm of Life undying) but a corrupted aspect of it, where in the Hunger realm fell to chaos, Malnafus is a realm born of chaos and entirely formed with it in mind.

Ring World & Battle Realm: Above the skies sits the ring world, place where the past champions of Battle realm toast drinks with the Queen of the Balck Id, she who summons the warriors of battle realm, and chooses those who collect the three stones to become Overlord of Battle Realm, represented as a Donut. Yes.

Battle realm a massive realm spanning continent, is host of endless combat, for ages the hosts dragged into Battle Realm have fought to decide who is Overlord and collect the three stones, however only one can rule, so this has turned often into infighting. These realms were made originally for me to have a "battle realm," and I got lazy with the naming scheme...

Eventually, there will be more realms, and now I get to the ones I have no ideas for...

Ethereal Sea: Made at the same point as Dead Lands, Soul Well, and Hunger (death, rebirth, and life) and the Mortal Realm (life and death combined) but resting above those realms, travel to the farthest edges of the dead lands and your enter the spirit sea of the ethereal realm, where spirit was granted the form it holds now, however predators stalk the realm devouring whatever enters.

Shar: Made by the Spire as a garbage bin for the excess realms and things made by the Chaos Sea, it was going to be represented as clouds, fire, earth and matter I general all smashed together but I'm not sure how I feel on that as I have the Elemental Chaos which represents that as a concept already.

I have a couple of others, but I think this will serve for now. Thank you to anyone who gave this post a look!

First set of icons for my realm tree, just wondering if they give off the impression of the realm by looks alone

Had some really good advice on some of the realms in past posts, so thank you to those who aided me along this map creation!

I'm not gonna leave ya'll hanging on the realms themselves and what each icon represents, more just looking for a "eh, yea that works" or a "that is just dumb/doesnt fit."

I'll go picture by picture, naming the realms, and what the design is meant to be cause. im sure its a rough view for some of them, lol.

I'll read them out from bottom to top.

1st Photo

* Moon nestled in the clouds with stars; Dream realm

* Spider descending from its web; Nightmare realm

- Both are interlinked as deeply connected realms

of the psychic "web"

* Snake chasing its own tail, eternity caught by its mass; Realm of time

* Sun with light rays... Light realm

2nd Photo

* Planets in the empty void, stars, and a Lil moon; Realm of Space (artistic representation does ruin the lore for this realm, it's just a void, but needed a icon to show Space easy enough).

* Celtic Triskele, as I'd seen, it can represent energy (correct me if wrong, PLEASE); Realm of Energy

* Arrows pushing against one another; Realm of Forces

* Connected rings; Realm of Dimension

On the left side:

* Fire.... Realm of Fire (Infernus)

* Clouds and storms; Realm of Storms (Ezyr)

* Endless sky and clouds; Realm of Air (Novum)

On the right side:

* Mountains and endless earth; Realm of Earth (Terra)

* Endless lands and trees; Realm of "Wood" (Aethes)

* The endless deep seas; Realm of Water/Cold (Atlan)

Directly between the 6 elemental realms listed above is the Elemental Chaos from which all elements meet and combine in pure chaos, represented as swirling energy

* A pit directly in the tree; The Soul Well (Realm of Rebirth)

* A skull, it's eye searching for aid; The Hunger (Realm of Life without Death)

* A ruined city, littered Crosses as high as the horizon; The Dead Lands (Realm of Death without Life)

3rd Photo

* Atomic Symbol; Realm of Matter

* Triquetra (has A LOT of meanings with earth, fire, and ice, life and death, and mysticism in general at least from what I was reading, thought it fit for a mystical symbol); Realm of Magic (Mah'nah)

* A swirling void interlinked with magic, going nowhere forever; Realm of Anti-magic (Mahn'in)

* A dying withered branch; Realm of Ruin

* A tear in the tree, clawed to bits; the Savage World (An extension of Ruin, but given form rather than just raw entropy and destruction.)

Tell me what ya'll think, and I'm sorry if this is unreadable

Discussing some lore of my realms and their relationship to the Spire

In the current iteration of the realm; it began with the Spire and the great Wheel, which turned representing the Cycle...

Chaos and misfortune met my universe very early in its history, and due to this struggle, the Spire and its aid of the Seer, Writer and the Forgotten One created the realms of the Paramount Realms from which all other realms would be built of; these were Energy, Matter, Time, Light, Force, Space, Mah'nah (magic) and Mahn'in (anti-magic), and Ruin - which from its own foul essence formed its own realm The Savage World fueled by the energies of the raw Chaos Sea itself...

From the union of these Paramount Realms came the realm of Dimension, and with it, form was given to all things made after, soon after the realms of Polaris (Future), Umbra (Present), Stygia (Past) were formed alongside the river of time which poured like a water fall into the empty abyss and from it crawled the Sunless Realms (what could be)

The Primoridal realms of fire, air, water, earth, wood, and storms were formed after and from these realms the realms of Hunger (unending life), the Soul Well (rebirth) and the Dead Lands (after life) were created...

From these things came the template for life and death, and with it, the Mortal realm...

Just a brief intro into my universes, what do yall think, didn't want to go into every detail as that'd be annoying to read I imagine, but this is generally the ttlr for a few of my realms and my universes beginning.

What of your realms, I'd love to hear of them

u/BigDaduyaddy β€” 25 days ago
β–² 77 r/mapmaking

Finally finished the map I think, but now for the part I was trying to ignore...

So I'm working on the Icons, or symbols that best represent my realms, got some basic ideas for many of them, due to those realms just being so basic to understand (realms of fire, water, earth, et cetera)...

Others like the Hunger are represented by a still living skull, goofy ik but it has a lore reason, or the soul well being a hole into the tree which I think will work REALLY well, but I'm often wrong on first attempts πŸ˜‚, the Dead Lands will be a ruined city, and I think those will all fit the realms for icons quite nicely...

But when it comes to others, how do I represent those in a way that isn't goofy or silly, such as the realm of time, just time nothing else, not even beginning, or ends, I thought a clock right? But jeez is that silly. In early attempts, I did one of those melting clocks in those famous paintings, but gosh, that was odd looking, I guess on purpose...

So I ask ya'll what your collective genius would do instead. Feel free to ask me about my realms and what they represent if you need inspiration.

The realms I have no/little idea for symbols go as such... Energy, Dimension, Matter, Space, Dream, Nightmare, Time, Light, Forces, Ruin, the Savage World, Mah'nah (magic), Mahn'in (anti-magic), the Sunless Realm.

I've got others but those are just the ones I am stumped on...

Thoughts so far on this W.I.P

Just added forests, as I didn't want the world to seem empty. It's meant to be a globe view of the Wyrld, anything you'd add?

As you can probably see, I also have the rivers roughly placed, but idk if I want to add them as they wouldn't be seen from a classic globe view, would they?

Or should I just add them just cause?

u/BigDaduyaddy β€” 26 days ago
β–² 15 r/mapmaking

Perhaps this works better for forests

I apologize, I'm sure this community is tired of seeing this one map over and over, just seeing if this forest style works instead?

Comments were right on the last post. It did look like a rash instead of a forest, I hope this works a little better, less of a blob and more of a rough idea of where forests would sit, smaller in detail but I think it works much better than a skin condition of a page πŸ˜‚

Again, sorry for the repeated posts about forests, I think this map will be done soon.... yea

u/BigDaduyaddy β€” 26 days ago
β–² 47 r/mapmaking

Does this work for forests?

The stippling represents the forests if viewed from a globular view of the planet.

The slight smudges of pencil are the hotter arid lands/deserts. I don't think that'd transfer well to ink, so don't worry about those areas, I'd have to make a more obvious terrain style...

I put another photo just of an ink test for the forests, and I think I'm just tricking myself, but it doesn't look bad, does it? How obvious are the stippling as "forests".

Tyvm for anyone who takes time to read through this.

u/BigDaduyaddy β€” 26 days ago

How would you go about depicting forests from a view like this for a map?

Got some good input on the mountains from some awesome people in this community, decided I would just siphon this font of knowledge as long as I could.

All jokes aside, how would ya'll proceed when it comes to doing forests on a map such as this, I don't think I'll worry about hills, or grasslands or steppes or anything that wouldn't be viewable form this globe view, but what of forests?

Am I just cool to proceed with inking in the mountain ranges?

As always, sorry for the side view photo... πŸ˜…

u/BigDaduyaddy β€” 27 days ago
β–² 59 r/mapmaking

Too many mountains? I think so

Just a close up of a part of my map I'm making and I'm wondering if I should do less mts in a cluster like I've done now, it's supposed to be a map showing a view of my "Wyrld" (the western side of the world)...

u/BigDaduyaddy β€” 27 days ago
β–² 82 r/mapmaking

Updated, tiny bit of work, attempted to define the sea from land

I saw suggestion to do a more standard coast with the dashes, I played with a border coast, and then a mix of both dashes and a border, looks really nice - DID NOT fit this map, or perhaps just my patience and the detailing skill needed to make it look up to my "standards" weren't up to par

Instead, I made the sea a light shade of gray, though I fear it doesn't show as well in camera mabye? But I think it's still easy enough to see the much lighter land mass not filled in. Let me know how yall are feeling about it - In person, I really like the subtle difference, but yea...

If you have any questions or ways you'd improve this, please feel free

I'm really sorry for the side ways picture,

u/BigDaduyaddy β€” 28 days ago

Tell me what you think

Tell me what you guys think, still working on it, planning to put the various realms of my universe. Some are hard to put an icon to, I suppose, like one realm is time... so mabye a clock right?

u/BigDaduyaddy β€” 30 days ago
β–² 241 r/mapmaking

Tell me what you think

This is either draft 4-5... tell me what ya'll hate, what you love, I don't know why I'm still awake rn

Also not finished, I plan to have the various realms highlighted on the tree with little icons, like the Flower to the very right, and the city in the clouds (or whatever you call the blob under the title), don't know how to necessarily display some of my realms due to them not being necessarily tangible concepts, or being too tangible, like a realm of just 'Matter'... like wtf do I draw for that, I'm not an artist, I had to redraw this 4 times cause of my 'talents'

Thanks again for those who take time to at least view my newest monstrosity πŸ‘ŒπŸ™
