eVisa Validity vs. Intended length of stay

As suggested by most people here, I'm applying for my evisa to cover longer than I plan to be in Vietnam (valid for 62 days, intend to stay 13 days.) The "Intended length of Stay" field on the form autofilled with 62 days. Should I correct it to 13 days in case I'm asked to provide my return flight information when going through immigration on arrival, or leave it matching the validity dates?

Private Transfer or Grab from Noi Bai?

My travel group (4 adults with luggage) will be landing in Hanoi on a Friday night around 9:35, and I'm trying to decide if it makes sense to book a private transfer to take us from Noi Bai to our hotel in Old Town, or if we should just hold off and order a Grab after we clear immigration. Is it reasonable to think there will be Grabs available that can accommodate all of us and our bags?

Originally, I planned to book a transfer through 12Go (our hotel doesn't offer this), but I'm a bit worried about taking too long getting out (or being delayed) and having a driver leave the airport without us. A quick look at the arrivals for Noi Bai shows there will likely be several other arrivals right around the same time that night. By the time we land, we will have been travelling over 24 hours, so I expect we'll be tired and not particularly smart. I'd like to have a clear plan in place we can just follow without thinking.

Any advice is appreciated!

Northern Vietnam in 13 days - Itinerary Check

I'm travelling to Vietnam with my partner and 2 other friends in late October for my birthday, and due to the timing, we've decided to leave the central and south regions for another trip. We want a balance of culture, adventure, and relaxation, and want to spend at least 2 nights in each place so we can do a full vibe-check and not always be packing up and moving on. My itinerary is below - what am I missing in each place? What would you change?

  • Hanoi 3 nights with an evening arrival in Hanoi Old Town after 25 hours of travel (food, bed)
    • Walking tour including some of the following (we decide at the time):
      • Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum
      • Temple of Literature
      • Hoa Lo Prison
      • National Museum of History
    • Visit to tailor to order custom clothes
    • Walk around Hoan Kim lake (we're there on a weekend to take in the street closures and local activities)
    • Egg coffee on train street
    • Explore old town, eat street food, marvel at the sites, nap off the jet lag
    • Ella Hanoi Food Tour
    • Cruise line pickup and transportation to:
  • 3 Day/2 Night Bai Tu Long Bay Cruise
    • includes the expected activities; kayaking, tai chi, cave and floating village visits, cooking class on board, glorious views
    • Private driver pickup in Ha Long Bay to:
  • Tam Coc Ninh Binh 3 nights with early evening arrival & e-scooters to get around
    • Trang An boat tour (early morning to beat the tour busses)
    • Hang Mua (for sunset)
    • Bich Dong Pagoda
    • Thung Nham area and bird park (for sunset)
    • Hoa Lu
    • Tuyet Tinh Coc
    • Cruising around on scooters to see what we can see
    • Train from Ninh Binh back to Hanoi for evening (and tailor fit checks)
  • Overnight train from Hanoi to Sapa (with shuttle from train station to Sapa Town)
  • Sapa 3 days, 2 nights - activities to include:
    • CatCat Village
    • Sapa Night market
    • Ham Rong Mountain attractions
    • Full guided trekking day on Hidden Trail
    • Fansipan cable car (weather permitting)
    • Red Dao herbal bath
    • Silver and Love waterfalls visits
    • VIP overnight bus to:
  • Hanoi 1 night final night
    • pick up clothes from tailor
    • massages
    • last minute souvenier shopping
    • sunset at Long Bien bridge
    • beer street (to ensure a good final sleep!)
  • Airport for noon departure
    • crying in airport over having to go home

That's it. Our travel locations and durations are set, but what about the things we plan to do? Is it too much? Not enough? Am I missing any must-dos?

VicSapa Train Booking

I just booked a VIP cabin on Vicsapa train from Hanoi to Lao Cai in October directly through the Vicsapatrain.com site, and found the experience a bit weird, so I'm hoping someone here who has done the same can confirm validity. The url took me to a bootstrap site, where I selected my cabin and departure date. It offered some add-on transfer options (van or private car to Sapa, airport transfer, etc.) Then I went straight to the pay options. There was no departure time selection, and no confirmation email. The website information looks like this is to be expected, but I'm a bit worried I was on a bad site. I chose to book with Vicsapa directly because they were only showing as having single berth options on 12Go, and I wanted a large bed instead of the narrow single berths.

Has anyone had a similar experience? If so, was it legit, or should I be looking at making changes (and better decisions overall, haha).
