Got a gun pulled on me tonight
Pulled up to some apartment complex looking for the address. This dude I noticed getting out of the car with his girlfriend and kids didn’t take a liking to me driving slowly looking for where I was supposed to be. Got out the car to him clutching his firearm telling me not to pull up like that, so I laughed and asked “what the fuck are you talking about?” His girlfriend noticed I was just delivering food and quickly rounded up the family. He, still fired up, was going on about PTSD and “blowing a door dasher down.” Whole time we are on the same floor, and as I’m delivering the food, I just kept laughing. Finished the delivery and walked off telling him he isn’t the only one with it on him. Now I definitely didn’t do anything to de-escalate the situation but things like that really just don’t phase me. My advice to anyone doing this work late in the night is to obviously not handle an incident like that the way I did, be aware of your surroundings, and if you can, have the means to protect and defend yourself. Safe dashing to all! 🫡

decided to try it out
honestly got bored and decided to download doordash tonight. went out for a bit just to try it out and can’t say that i am all too thrilled. didn’t expect my area to be so dead on a friday night especially since i am in a fairly populated area with tons of restaurants. spent most of my time either sitting waiting for orders or driving to different hotspots. my last order was a double dash which accounted for about 30% of my total earnings. tips we’re pretty terrible as i saw just over $2 per tip but i don’t necessarily expect everyone to tip well or at all for that matter. usually i see doordash earnings less than tip earnings which is why i even made it a point of relevance. maybe i’ll find time tomorrow to go out just to see what it looks like and if it’s even worth continuing. i might have to branch out to different areas to get the full scope on which areas are better than others, but i live in the northern virginia area so traffic can be a pain.
overall it’s not terrible but again not too thrilled about the potential compared to some others. not everyones scenario is the same though and one day i could get lucky. some days obviously will be better than others but i don’t think i would pursue it full time. could see myself not touching the app at all again worst case scenario, but this will probably be something i can go out and do when i have free time just to earn a few extra bucks.
