This is a throwaway but I’m a dental assistant in VA and was hired into a specialty office as an endo assistant. I’ve been in that role for about 6 months.
A few weeks ago I got a notification on Indeed that my office posted a job listing that looked exactly like my position. A day after seeing the indeed posting, HR sent out an email with a list of open positions that included my position as well. No one had said anything to me about hiring someone else, so it kind of caught me off guard.
I emailed HR to ask if my job was going to be affected and they told me no, that everything was fine and they were just filling in for an assistant that had left.
Then about a week later, they told me they actually are hiring for my position and moved me to a different doctor effective immediately. I know HR is for the company so i guess it makes sense why they wouldn’t have be up front but it does feel like a low blow move.
Now I’m working as a general assistant, which I don’t really mind, but the part that’s bothering me is what they’re asking me to do. I’m not a registered or expanded functions assistant and only had on the job training at my previous office, but they’ve had me packing cord, doing sealants, polishing the hygiene
patients, and making and cementing temp crowns.
I’m comfortable doing some of it, but I didn’t think I was allowed to do certain things in VA without additional certifications.
Between being told my job was fine and then suddenly getting moved, and now being asked to do things I’m not sure are even in my scope, I just feel kind of uneasy about the whole situation.
Is this normal and is it crazy for me to be upset about the whole situation?
