Update on Burbank Elementary Schools' Kitchens (Not Good News)
While I appreciate the transparency from the new superintendent, and I understand that the school district's hands are tied by the county and state, it is utter BS that every elementary school in the city can't prepare food on site for the children in their kitchen because of the number of sinks that were installed in 2025. I am not hopeful this is going to get resolved any time soon (no timeline was given).
While the schools are offering cold and reheated meals to kids prepared from the central kitchen, options are very limited, and heavily weighted towards salads and wraps. This is causing a lot of families with smaller kids and/or pickier eaters to have to now prepare lunches for their kids, which is both a financial burden and additional time that parents have to spend in the morning or evening preparing lunches.
I don't honestly know if this is anything the city council could solve, but if any candidate out there has a plan for how to fix this, let me know, you'd have my vote.
