Hello awesome people of this sub. Don't know what flair to put this as, it kind of fits a few of the options. I'm very tired and I must confess this is an ignorant post, but I have been thinking about going back into 1:1 counselling to deal with some issues. It got me wondering a bit about ABA, which I don't know much about other than it is widely criticised by many in the autistic community and is....a type of camouflage/masking therapy?

Basically the issues I want to discuss are mostly around past (self)-isolation, trauma from being in special education growing up, depression and anxiety, and difficulty dating and forming relationships. I'm quite down and out about the prospect of not finding a compatible long-term partner in my life in particular at the moment, and am hoping I can be proactive in tackling that problem. For the record I'm 27M and I don't necessarily have a preference between NT or ND partners, as long as communication and empathising are good! I also use cannabis sometimes which I'm hiding from my doctor because they tend to blame that for everything even though I use it neither heavily nor insanely regularly. I have never had any problems with alcohol or drug addiction.

Given what you've read, would I be absolutely crazy to even think about considering ABA therapy, and why or why not, is my question. As it stands I'm thinking about seeing a psychotherapist, and maybe dating/relationship coaching if I need that.

Thank you!
