A book in which the main character is a 50+ woman

Asking for my Mom who's interested in getting back into reading. Genre doesn't matter. She just wants someone who's experienced. Bonus points if the main character is 70+

Edit: WOW!!! Thank you all so much!

Help Washing and Styling 5YO Microlocs

I love my locs! I'm tender-headed and have soft, oily, dandruff-prone hair. I still brand and band because I dealt with some slippage and some bunching not too long ago. It shocked me because I thought I was fully matured.

I don't feel like my hair is as clean as I'd like and I haven't used a conditioner and hardly any oils since getting my locs installed. But I'd like to address my scalp issues without causing anymore bunching. Plus, my hair gets heavy when it's oily AND I'm due for a retie.

I definitely want to learn how to better wash, if anyone has any favorite YT videos, what products (oils and/or conditioner) would be best to use, and different styles I can put my hair in so it won't cause so much pulling and weight.

Thanks!

▲ 54 r/college

A loved one of mine had been placed on academic probation during their first semester at a large university, and unfortunately failed the following semester. Their GPA is under 1.0. Although they have not received an official letter dismissing them from the university, it will likely happen soon.

The student is currently looking at the possibility of transferring or starting a new at a smaller institution or community college.

Is that possible given how low their GPA is?

How is financial aid impacted?

For background, they used their parent's GI bill and the Pell grant to pay for the year. The rest of the finances were paid out-of-pocket.

So, a couple of days ago I made a post about an email I received from my leadership about a document I needed to sign and return ASAP regarding CBAs. I finally was able to open it.

  1. It stated that my SF50 had been updated to reflect that I was no longer eligible to be represented by the Union. I checked my SF-50, which had been updated just a couple of days before that email, and my bargaining unit remains unchanged.

  2. The document that I was to sign stated, "I acknowledge that I no longer am eligible for union representation." To which, I say, false. I'm aware that my SF-50 may be updated to reflect as much, but as of now, that's not what it says.

  3. It felt like a gotcha. My gut feeling says that I'm signing away my right to representation if I sign the document, as is.

  4. I added a statement and a copy of my SF-50 that I'm acknowledging receipt of the documents but that according to my SF-50, I'm still eligible for representation.

I have NO idea if this is the correct course of action or if there will be any penalties, but I felt better about it.

So much has been happening and I've been admittedly losing track (I know that's the point), but I hadn't realized that a few weeks ago some new EOs came out regarding CBAs. I've been TDY and only recently saw an email from a supervisor with a document I need to sign regarding the EOs (I'm guessing). The document is locked, so I can't view it. But, I'm not at all comfortable signing any of my rights away to anything or anyone. What have been people's experiences with all of this?

I'm adding a link for reference in case others were as in the dark as I am.

I don't agree that the only way for a person to be successful in any field is to have a degree; however, this new brand of anti-intellectualism - burning or banning books, attacks on science and medicine, and censorship - will hold this country back for generations. ALL people should have access to knowledge and they shouldn't have to break the bank to get it.

What a fucked way to describe employees who have chosen to only do the job requirements they're being paid for. Capitalism has employers believing that if a person doesn't go "above and beyond" and do more than what's expected without being compensated, that they're lazy. It's exploitive. Pay your employees fairly!

Also, large corporations are NOT "like a family'. That phrase is being used to gaslight employees.
