When did you first notice the signs in your child?
My son is 20 months old and I am fairly certain he has ADHD, some things I have noticed
- He is always at 100%, constantly moving or fidgeting, the only times he’s ever calm is the afternoon after he’s had his swim lesson
- He is fearless, he will constantly climb and will never listen when I tell him no. Even if he falls off something and is hurt, once he has stopped crying he will be straight back up climbing it again
- The only thing he will pay attention to for more
than a couple of minutes is Curious George, he’d sit and watch it for hours if I let him. He gets so focused on it that even if we stand right in front of his face calling his name he won’t even acknowledge us and just move his head so he can still see the tv
- He very rarely follows simple instructions or responds to his name (it’s definitely not a hearing problem)
- His speech is delayed, he only has 9 words (4 of which are family names) and can’t put any together to make simple sentences. There are also words like shoes and share that he uses to say confidently but it’s like he’s completely forgot them
I know ADHD is incredibly hard to diagnose at this age but every single one of my mum senses are telling me this is something more than just a toddler with a lot of energy. So my question is when did you know and how did you know? Also any sort of help I could give him at home to try and make things easier on his overactive brain would also be greatly appreciated.
