I don’t want to overwhelm any new players. Would it be a bad idea to run a homebrew world for a new player or should I do something with more familiarity with a franchise like Star Wars or something similar to that?

I’m currently in the process writing a dnd campaign based 50 years after the events of the game. How much of the quests could I “borrow” to use in my game outside of obviously the main quest line?
Any other ideas are welcome as well!

I know that I’ll have to improv at some point. I just want to know what are some ways I can prepare for improve so I can be ready for improving in my session as far as things the players will do or things they will encounter.
