Too many ads made me start building a local story library app, thoughts?
I’m working on a local story library/reader app and would like some feedback.
The main idea is to let readers save stories into a local library on their device, mainly because ads and the current reading experience can sometimes get in the way. I’ve already built a good part of the app, and I’m trying to understand whether this is something readers would actually find useful.
Current features include:
- Save story details, parts, and comments locally
- Re-check saved stories for updates
- Browse a local library and filter by tag, genre, language, or search term
- Read story parts inside the app
- View comments
- Search across one part or the full story
- Save reading progress
- Delete saved stories
- Get update notifications when new content or author comments are added
- Customize reading theme, font size, scrolling/page mode, comment visibility, etc.
- Customize general app settings like cover size, app font size, and theme
- Mobile and desktop support
I’m mainly looking for feedback on these questions:
- Would you use something like this?
- What features would make it more useful?
- Are filters enough, or would you want something like playlists/collections for saved stories?
- For mobile, would you prefer everything stored directly on the phone, or would you prefer using a laptop/desktop as a local server that stores the library and lets your phone connect to it?
- What concerns would you have about an app like this?
I may attach a few screenshots if people are interested.
