BCA → MCA, starting coding from scratch: Is web development still a good career in 2026
I’m genuinely confused about what career path I should take and would really appreciate some honest advice.
I completed my BCA in 2026, but I’ll be honest: during BCA, I mostly studied theory for exams and only did a little bit of coding. I was preparing for banking exams alongside my degree, but I eventually lost interest in that path.
I’m currently doing my MCA (first year), and I’ve now started seriously learning technical skills. I’m studying HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Java, Spring Boot, and Angular. My goal is to become good enough to get an entry-level job as soon as possible and then continue learning and improving through experience.
However, I keep hearing that there isn’t much of a future in web development because AI is going to automate a lot of it. This makes me worried that the time I’m investing in frontend/backend development might eventually go to waste.
At the same time, I feel like waiting until I figure out the “perfect” future-proof career could leave me stuck without any practical experience. I’m thinking that maybe I should learn web development properly, get an entry-level job, gain real industry experience, and then gradually move toward areas that are less likely to be heavily affected by AI.
So my main questions are:
Given my background, am I making the right decision by focusing on Java + Spring Boot + Angular?
Is web development actually becoming a bad career choice, or is the nature of the job simply changing because of AI?
Should I focus on getting an entry-level developer job as soon as possible, even if the field may change later?
If I continue with this path, what skills should I prioritize so I’m not just learning things that AI can easily replace?
What would you recommend someone in my exact situation do over the next 1–2 years?
I’m looking for realistic advice rather than “just follow your passion” or “AI will replace everything.” I’m willing to put in the work; I just want to make sure I’m investing that work in a sensible direction.
