IGDTUW MCA Entrance — My Honest Take & Preparation Strategy

A lot of students have been asking me about the IGDTUW MCA entrance exam — how the paper was, what to study, what not to study, how much maths comes, whether PYQs are enough, etc. So I thought I’d divide the students into two categories: students preparing for NIMCET + IGDTUW and students preparing only for IGDTUW.
For those preparing for NIMCET, my biggest advice is: just focus properly on your NIMCET preparation. If your NIMCET preparation is strong, IGDTUW should not be extremely difficult for you. Talking about the maths level of our paper, it was somewhat easier/moderate compared with NIMCET 2026. NIMCET 2026 was quite lengthy, whereas our paper wasn’t like that. The maths level in our paper was manageable. The approximate distribution of our paper was 20 questions English, 20 Reasoning, 20 Mathematics, 20 C/C++, and 20 Basic Computer Science/Computer Organisation. So overall, Computer has a very significant weightage — around 40 questions.
One very important thing is that the IGDTUW paper pattern is NOT predictable. For example, in 2025 they asked C-based questions, in 2024 they also asked C questions, but in 2026 the programming section consisted of C++ output-based questions. Similarly, the Computer Organisation/basic computer section has also varied. In our paper, it was relatively basic, whereas in the previous batch it was comparatively harder. Reasoning was very easy for us and there weren’t really quant questions in our paper, but in 2025 they had asked quant. So please don’t prepare based on predictions like “this year only this topic will come.” Even if a teacher says that only certain topics will come or a particular mock is based on a specific pattern, don’t depend completely on that. My personal experience is: prepare everything.
For students preparing only for IGDTUW, I would suggest giving extra attention to the Computer section. For programming, prepare both C and C++ thoroughly — theory as well as output-based questions. Practice code tracing, loops, functions, operators, precedence, basic programming concepts and basic OOP concepts. Don’t prepare only output questions; theory is equally important because the pattern can change every year. Do as many C/C++ output-based questions as possible because even a small mistake in understanding the code can change the answer completely. Along with programming, prepare Basic Computer and Computer Organisation properly. Don’t study only the very basic definitions assuming that the same level as the previous year will come.
For Reasoning and Quant, prepare both. Don’t think, “Last year only reasoning came, so I’ll skip quant.” The pattern can change. If your maths is weak, don’t completely leave it. At least prepare manageable and formula-based topics like probability, permutation and combination, basic algebra, mean, median, mode, coordinate geometry, circle, ellipse and other important formulas. Even if maths isn’t your strongest subject, knowing these concepts and formulas properly can help you attempt several questions.
Around 1,200–1,300 students appear for the exam, while there are around 76 seats, with reservations applied category-wise. So obviously, competition for General category can be tougher because the number of seats available there is lower. For the exact category-wise seat distribution, I’ll leave that information in the comments separately so there is no confusion.
Talking about the cut-off, it generally goes around 70, but if you’re from the General category, I personally would suggest aiming for 75+ rather than targeting the bare minimum. I’m saying this based on my own experience of giving the paper and my estimation of my score. The actual cut-off can vary depending on the difficulty level and competition that year.
One BIG thing: don’t become dependent on mocks or PYQs. PYQs are useful, memory-based questions are useful and mocks are useful, but don’t make them your entire preparation. You can find previous-year/memory-based questions shared by students, including on platforms/groups such as Marolia, but use them for practice and understanding the pattern, not for predicting the next paper. Don’t do, “This mock is being conducted, so I’ll just prepare according to this mock.” Instead: Prepare → Give mock → Analyse your mistakes → Improve → Repeat. The mock should test your preparation, not become your preparation. The same goes for PYQs.
And most importantly, don’t panic — neither before the exam nor while attempting it. If your NIMCET preparation is genuinely good, you should be able to handle the IGDTUW paper. If you’re an IGDTUW-only student, cover all the sections properly, with extra focus on Computer and C/C++ theory + output-based questions. The paper is manageable if you have prepared well.
There is no negative marking, so make sure you attempt all 100 questions. Results are generally released around a week after the exam.
So my final advice is: Don’t try to predict the paper. Prepare yourself for whatever paper comes. The pattern has changed across years, so don’t skip subjects just because they weren’t asked heavily in the previous year. Prepare thoroughly, stay calm, and trust your preparation. All the best to everyone preparing for IGDTUW! ❤️

NIMCET 2027 preparation: Self-study or online coaching?

Hi everyone! I’m planning to prepare for NIMCET 2027 and I’m a bit confused about how I should approach my preparation.

My Maths is quite weak, especially when it comes to the basics, so I’m not sure whether self-study would be the best option for me. I’m considering either:

  1. Self-study using different resources (YouTube, telegram)
  2. Joining an online NIMCET coaching, where I can follow a structured schedule and have proper guidance.

I’m leaning towards coaching because I feel that having someone teach the concepts from the basics and having a fixed structure might help me, but I’m also wondering if it’s actually worth paying for a course when there are so many free resources available.

For those who have prepared for NIMCET, especially if your Maths was weak initially:

  • Would you recommend self-study or coaching?
  • If coaching is better, which institute would you recommend and why?
  • How good are the popular NIMCET online courses when it comes to teaching Maths from the basics?
  • Is it better to join a full course or just take Maths classes and self-study the other sections?
  • If you self-studied, what resources did you use?

I’d really appreciate advice from people who have actually prepared for NIMCET. I’m trying to choose the right approach before I start seriously, so I don’t end up wasting time or jumping between too many resources.

Working full-time in enterprise cybersecurity: Does an Online MCA actually clear the MNC/Big-4 HR filter for Senior/Lead roles?

>TL;DR: 21yo working full-time in Cybersecurity Have production projects (custom Coraza-based WAF, Federated Learning IDS) and good trajectory, but holding a 3-year B.Sc CS. Need a Master’s on paper for long-term CISO/Lead filters and the 16-year education requirement without quitting my job. Looking for brutal truth on Online MCA vs BITS WILP.

Hey everyone,

Need some candid advice from folks who have actually broken into Senior/Lead/Management roles in Indian tech/MNCs.

Where I stand right now:

  • Background: 21, B.Sc Computer Science graduate (~8.0 CGPA, heavy upward trend in later sems).
  • Work: Currently working full-time in Enterprise Cybersecurity
  • Constraint: Shift work + full-time job. I cannot quit to sit in a physical MCA classroom for 2 years.

The Problem: I know skills beat degrees in the early game. But looking 5–10 years ahead toward Team Lead, Risk/Governance, and eventual Head of Security/CISO tracks, the lack of a formal Master's degree and the 15-year education barrier (3-yr B.Sc) frequently triggers automated HR rejection filters at enterprise MNCs and Big-4s.

What I'm evaluating:

  1. Reputed Online MCA (e.g., Manipal / Amity): UGC-DEB approved, proctored exams, purely to get the formal Master's checkbox ticked while I keep gaining enterprise YoE.
  2. BITS Pilani WILP (Work Integrated Learning): Heavy brand name, but higher workload and strict academic rigor alongside shift work.

What I want to know from hiring managers, leads, and people who took this route:

  1. In technical interviews and background checks for Mid/Senior roles, does anyone actually scrutinize whether the MCA was online vs regular, as long as it’s UGC-recognized and backed by solid real-world experience?
  2. Is the BITS WILP brand difference worth the extra grind compared to a standard online MCA when paired with continuous enterprise security experience?
  3. If you’ve done an Online MCA while working full-time, how was your experience managing shift/corporate hours with the exams?

Appreciate any no-BS insights from those who have navigated this.

From B.Com to Tech at 25: Need honest advice about MCA, placements, low board marks, and career transition ?

Hello everyone.

I need some honest advice because I'm feeling very confused about my next step.

I'm 25 years old and I'm trying to transition from a commerce background into the tech industry.

My academic background:

10th: 49.60%

12th: 55.38%

B.Com completed in 2025

I also completed a D.lib. course between 2020 and 2021.

My educational timeline looks something like this:

10th completed in 2018

12th completed in 2020

D.lib completed in 2021

B.Com completed in 2025

Planning to pursue MCA in 2026

Because of this timeline, I have some academic gaps, and I'm not sure how much they will affect my future.

Another important point is that I have zero coding experience.

I don't come from a B.Tech, BCA, or computer science background.

I also don't have any internships, software development experience, GitHub projects, or a technical portfolio.

My current options

Option 1: Regular MCA

I have been allotted a regular MCA college in Pune.

However, there are several concerns:

College timing is from 8 AM to 4 PM

75% attendance is compulsory

I will have to move away from home

Living expenses will increase

I will have less time for self-study and coding

The MCA fee is around ₹70,000 per year, plus an additional security deposit

The biggest issue is campus placements.

I recently learned that many companies use 10th and 12th marks as an eligibility filter during campus placements.

If that is true, then I may not even be eligible to sit for many placement drives.

If I cannot participate in campus placements, then I'm wondering whether moving to another city and spending a significant amount of money still makes sense.

Option 2: IGNOU (distance/open university)

I'm also considering pursuing an MCA through IGNOU.

This would give me much more time for coding and skill development.

However, I don't know how employers view an IGNOU MCA.

Option 3: An irregular college

I'm also considering a college where attendance is not mandatory and students only need to appear for examinations.

This would allow me to spend most of my time learning technical skills.

However, such colleges don't provide campus placements.

Option 4: Industry-oriented training programs

Several people working in the IT industry have advised me to focus on skills rather than depending entirely on a degree.

I was told to consider industry-oriented training programs in Hyderabad.

I spoke to someone from one of those institutes, and they said that before joining advanced programs related to AI, ML, or automation, I should first learn:

Python

C or C++

Basic programming concepts

I was also advised to consider fields such as:

Python development

Data science

SAP

SAP FICO

AI

Automation

The advice I received was:

Don't focus only on the degree. Focus on getting your foot into the industry first.

Work experience

I worked for a few months in 2025.

My responsibilities included:

Customer communication

Order processing

Returns management

Inventory tracking

Documentation

Email communication

Excel-based process management

I also started building an Excel-based tracking system for warehouse operations and inventory management.

However, I don't have formal documentation such as:

Salary slips

Offer letters

Appointment letters

PF records

So I'm not sure whether I can even count this as professional experience.

My biggest questions

How much do 10th and 12th marks actually matter after MCA?

If my board marks are below 60%, should I completely forget about campus placements?

Is an MCA still worth pursuing in my situation?

Should I choose a regular MCA, IGNOU, or an irregular college?

Should I focus more on self-study and industry training programs instead of depending on college?

How does off-campus hiring actually work?

Do people still get internships and entry-level jobs at 25 with a non-technical background?

If you were in my position, what would you do?

I'm looking for honest advice, especially from people who:

Transitioned from commerce to tech

Completed an MCA

Entered the industry through self-study

Found jobs through off-campus hiring

Thank you.

Is doing BCA a good choice in 2026? Need honest advice about jobs, placements, salary & career growth

I’m considering doing a BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications) in 2026, and I want to hear honest opinions from people who are currently doing BCA, have completed it, or work in the IT industry.

I’m confused about whether BCA is still a good career option in 2026, especially with AI changing the IT industry and the job market becoming more competitive.

I’d really appreciate honest answers to these questions:

  • Is BCA still worth doing in 2026?
  • How difficult is it to get a job after BCA?
  • What are the realistic placement opportunities after BCA?
  • What kind of companies hire BCA graduates?
  • What is the typical starting salary for a BCA graduate?
  • Is it possible to get a good IT job without doing MCA?
  • Is MCA necessary for better career growth?
  • How important is the college for BCA placements?
  • Do companies care more about skills/projects than the BCA degree?
  • Which skills should I learn during BCA to become employable?
  • Which areas have better opportunities: software development, web development, cybersecurity, cloud, data/AI, testing, etc.?
  • How important are internships and personal projects?
  • Can someone from an average college still get a good IT job?
  • How are BCA graduates affected by the current AI boom?
  • Are companies reducing entry-level jobs because of AI?
  • What should a BCA student realistically expect in terms of career growth after 3–5 years?
  • Would you recommend BCA to someone starting college in 2026?
  • If you could go back to the beginning of your BCA, what would you do differently?

Please share your actual experience, including your degree, college type, current job/role, years of experience, and approximate salary if you're comfortable sharing.

I’m looking for realistic experiences—not just “learn coding bro” or “do MCA.” 😅

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to answer.

URGENT I want to study bca in a different city Thinking of taking 5 lakhs loan for bca, should I? If not then why? a

So I 19m passed 12th this year had pcm but due to osm and family issues failed in maths and couldn't pass and i can't waste another year at any cost.

Now i have a very big interest in tech and i can't pursue btech anymore

A bit of my backstory, i am from a tier 3 city I was bullied all my school life and I begged my parents to change my school but they couldn't because they barely earned(still) 30k a month. Also my father suffers from bipolar disorder so there has been a lot of domestic trauma and i completely hate the city i live in I have no friends or anything and i feel so out of place and alienated here and i feel very suffocated. Also because of all this trauma it's even harder for me to stay i totally hate it here and want to move out

So i basically want to go to noida and found a university whose fee is around 1L per year but hostel fees are high so i might stay 1 year in hostel and 2 years in pg. Lump sum total comes around 7-7.5 lakhs my parents have saved about 3.5L for my education and they earn around 30K a month.

I don't know if it's a good decision to keep my emotions and these feelings above my family conditions because idk if I'll be able to get a job or not I'll try hard to upskill myself alot and get internships to help pay the loan but idk if it's possible or if I'll get any job I also plan on doing mca but only when my loan is cleared.

Please help me.

Need Help Making an important Decision. MCA vs 2.2LPA Infosys

Completed BCA in 2026, and the best offer I could manage was a 2.2 LPA Systems Associate Role from Infosys with a year of training at Mysore. Was very unlucky with 2 other jobs I wanted.

As you can tell, I didn’t really care about learning till it was very late.
So the options now are this job, or an MCA(2 years), where I study to hopefully get a better job.

But seeing the posts here and the general market, I don’t know how easy it would be to land a better job and within a good timeframe.

It is common to hear “hold whatever you get” etc. I could probably switch after the year of training and study while in training? Not sure how that would work.

So please help me make this decision, and anything you’d want me to know.

Thanks for reading! I really appreciate your time.

BCA Placement Doubt

[Coming from a Tier-2 ish college] Is it normal for college placements to have a majority of opportunities coming from companies hiring for customer service/customer support or similar associate roles, also sometimes masked with titles like "some rando advisor” and stuff? And I really do mean plain customer support roles. These are not even technical support, and I feel like only one company came for an actual tech support role.

I'm trying to understand if this is normal? Would you recommend taking up these opportunities as a fresher in the current market?

Best colleges for BCA where admissions are still open

Hey so I am a pcmb student. Looking for these best college options available. Pls help me find the best colleges which are taking admissions in BCA course.

10th - 89%

12th - 86%

JEE - 92 PERCENTILE

I did not gave CUET exam, I gave JEE and NEET

Also pls tell me should I opt for this course since I was more inclined towards bio but I did not get govt seat and bds is a very saturated and low paying field.

Do 10th and 12th marks matter for campus placement in mca

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to take admission in an MCA program at Trinity College, Pune.

My academic profile is:

10th: 49.68%

12th: 55.38%

B.Com: 79.6%

I've spoken to a few working professionals, and some of them told me that many companies (especially during campus placements) require at least 60% in 10th and 12th. They said that even if I perform well in MCA, my resume might not be shortlisted because of my school marks.

My questions are:

Do 10th and 12th marks really matter during MCA campus placements?

How many companies still use a 60% eligibility criterion?

Are my chances of getting an on-campus job very low?

Should I focus more on off-campus opportunities and skill development instead?

I'd really appreciate responses from MCA students, recent graduates, and recruiters.

Thanks.
