So, why was Episode 8 so controversial?

I finally finished Umineko some time ago and was pleasantly surprised about how good the ending was. The reason I was surprised was because, even before I started reading the VN, I saw everyone saying how disappointing Episode 8 was supposed to be and that the manga was supposedly a way better version of the ending.

Now, maybe this is just me bracing for the ending to be lackluster, but I genuinely doubt it could've ended in a more solid way than it did. I genuinely really liked everything they did with Tohya and Ange's happy ending was really nice and tasteful. The only thing I was a little iffy on was how convenient Ange going from reading the book of the single truth to suddenly reuniting with her family and fixing everything was. I wish they let that moment breathe a little, but I understand that there was a lot of ground to be covered in the ending, so it's not the end of the world.

The only thing I could guess is that people wanted concrete answers to all the mysteries? But, in my opinion, that door was firmly closed during Episode 7. It was pretty much a sealed deal that we weren't going to get "The Truth". So, I'm doubting if that is the cause of the disappointment, but I really don't know what it could be other than that.

Can anyone enlighten me as to why people (or even you yourself) did not enjoy Episode 8 all that much, or found it disappointing?

Heartbreaking: Turns out Erika Russel is a good character after all.

What is she saying? 😭😭😭

So, I've been playing Reverie and I'm gonna be honest: I've enjoyed basically every scene Erika has been a part of, specifically her contributions to them. Originally when I played 3rd, I had the same reaction as everyone else "She's annoying", "Her 1 joke is getting old", "It's not even funny in the first place", etc. But she has genuinely surprised me in this game.

I feel like me liking her a lot more is down to the localization, which I feel is quite a bit better this time around compared to the earlier CS games, the lines for all the characters feel way better articulated, naturalistic, snappier and funnier. Erika is one of the characters who seems to have benefited the most from this.

But it's not just that.

Her dynamic with Schmidt is really great, because she's one of the few characters that really gets under his skin and makes him fight her, and even puts him in his place sometimes, it's not just him looking down on people like usual. Also, he deserves the insults, so it works really well. Her dynamic with Agate and Tita also feels a lot stronger in this game. The first scene where you get to talk to her and the screen goes black and white, while she angrily looks at Agate, was legitimately funny imo. She also does a better job as coming across as a caring (maybe overprotective) mother for Tita here. They've done a good job showing new (and improved) sides to her in just a few scenes.

Maybe the most unexpected character turn around for me so far.
