Bee husk?

Found this guy hanging on the end of a strand of spider silk under the shed. I had to google whether bees molt (they do but only in larval stage) because it’s such a perfect husk.
Wonder if a spider just sucked all the moisture and stuff out of it?? It’s literally just thin empty shell. Any theories?

Thumb guard or something

Curious if anyone out there who forms lots of hoops on a mandrel has any clever thumb guard solution so the hook end of the hoop wire doesn’t dig into your thumb? And also doesn’t obstruct the wire when it wraps back around. I’ve tried a piece of leather but that doesn’t go very far and after a while the wire digs into my thumb again. 🫤

Noticed about 4 holes like this in the painted wood on the underside of backyard roof. Saw a smallish bee (2nd pic) crawl inside one of them. The bee is too small for a carpenter, unless we have some small carpenter varieties here in Sac? Also the holes are no larger than 1/4” diameter… any ideas?
