PSA: 9-1-6 day is coming! Be careful who you trust!

The annual celebration of the 9-1-6 will be here shortly - less than a month now.

This is a great way to celebrate everything that makes Sac, Sac. Patronize your favorite small businesses, creators, restaurants, etc. These are the people who create the culture and vibe that is uniquely Sacramento.

That said, do be aware of who you're buying from. *cough* *cough*
Just because someone is being promoted, or has self designated themselves, as they "Mayor of Sac" or representing "The People of Sacramento" - be sure you know what they stand for and represent. This individual has ripped off the very creators, artists, and small businesses that make Sac so special.

Shame on CBS Sacramento / Channel 13 for promoting a known grifter who has time and time again ripped of Sacramento.

ETA: The organization/business being referenced in the people of sacramento/ zayn silmi / the people's firm / the sacramento store

Anyone in the Sacramento area wants to join our Youtube TV plan?

Me and a couple friends have been sharing a Youtube TV account for the last couple years. One person has left and there is an open spot available. You must live in the Sac region for you to be added to the group or else youtube wont let you watch.

Anyone who lives in the Sacramento area and wants to split Youtube TV with 3 total people, dm me. It’s $83 per month divided by 3 people so around $27 per person a month. Looking for someone to be down for the long term. Includes all Kings games, many NBA games, many NFL games, news channels, and basically full on cable.

mods feel free to delete if this is not allowed

Is there an unwritten rule about parking in front of someone elses house in midtown?

So my friend came over to visit yesterday and parked perfectly legally on the street. No driveways or garbage cans blocked, totally legit spot.

When we walked back out a few hours later this guy who lives in the house right there was red face screaming at us from his porch. He was literally shaking lol asking if my friend "actually lived on this block" and saying it’s a common courtesy to leave spots open for the people who actually live at the house.

Then he threatened to call code enforcement to get the car towed if we ever park there again.I thought street parking was a total free for all as long as you have a permit? Is this a real unwritten rule people expect you to follow here or did we just run into a crazy person who thinks they own public asphalt?

NoNot gonna name the exact block because I don't want to dox myself but let's just say it's within walking distance of a very popular grocery store that charges $9 for a single piece of cheese, and the houses here all have those giant Victorian porches. Anyone want to guess which part of midtown has neighbors this entitled?

In Sacramento for 8 hours, picking up a puppy. Parks? Restaurants?

Hello!

I am flying in to Sacramento on Saturday to pick up my new puppy from her rescue. 🖤🤍

We will get to Sac at 9 am, and our flight out leaves at 5 pm.

We will pick her up around 10/11 am, and want to be back at the airport by 3 or 3:30.

So we will truly only have about 4 hours, and we will not have a car, so ubering where we need to go.

We are stopping by in-n-out before heading back to the airport, but what else should we do?

I wanted to take her to a beach but realized Sac is not on the ocean 😂 (can you tell I’m not from CA)

I’ve seen some river and lake beaches, and she does love water.

Where should we eat? My husband loves Mexican and Italian.

How should we spend our 4 hours before going back to the airport?

She is a 9 week French Bull dog chihuahua mix 🤗 puppy pic for tax

Still a good time to go floating on the American River?

Hey everyone 👋

Went to university in the area and floating was by far one of my favorite past times. Looking to make a trip back and was wondering how the river is doing?

I did a run this time last year and was caught a bit off guard as our stop came up a little sooner than expected. Learned that there are different flows depending on the time of year.

Just wanted to ask if anyone has gone recently and can share how it went!

Thanks so much and if this is not the right place to post please let me know

Anyone know the story of the fanatic Trump house on Hurley?

You can see on street view that this person is a bit of a fanatic about Trump. Then today, everything was taken down. It had been up for several years I believe. Anyone know the backstory?

I found a black kitten and the shelter is full

Hi everyone, I've found a kitten at my apartment complex. The shelter said they aren't taking in animals that are over the age of 4 months so I'm completely at a loss. I would keep it but I have 2 cats and live in a studio. I literally physically do not have the space for another animal and my lease only allows two pets regardless.

Does anyone know a shelter currently accepting new animals? This kitten is absurdly sweet and affectionate. She'd make someone such a loving pet. Alternately is anyone willing to take her in themselves? She's still outside because I literally physically can't keep her in my apartment but I could catch her again easily.

Left Lane Campers

What is it with all the left lane campers? I50 east going to Tahoe in the morning are people intentionally driving slow on the left lanes. All this traffic is because of these people. It’s an epidemic.

First Feature Film On Tubi

I made a action crime comedy thriller for about $24K that was pure guerrilla style. 100% skeleton paid crew (DP, sound, AD and a gaffer sometimes), and mostly deferred actor pay. Wrote, directed, produced, and starred in it myself. I filmed in once then had to start over because my old DP was trash. I literally wasted at least $10K and it took so long to even start again and finish. I started writing it in 2017 started filming in 2022 and finished it in 2026 and it was distributed on Prime and Tubi. I hope you will be able to watch it. Its streaming free on Tubi.

Look Behind is about a cop and a lawyer who's families were killed. They meet someone willing to help them get justice, but its an eye for an eye.

Opposition to AB 1729 - Only One

The 8.14.26 Senate Analysis included only one opposition: The Downtown Sacramento Partnership.

The Chair of the Board of Directors is also the Lieutenant Governor’s father.

A State Parks District Superintendent is an officer on the Board of Directors.

The Mayor of Sacramento is one of the Directors.

https://www.downtownsac.org/about/board/

Here’s their opposition:

ARGUMENTS IN OPPOSITION:

According to the Downtown Sacramento Partnership:

“At a time when state and local governments face persistent structural budget challenges, AB 1729 undermines taxpayer investments, weakens California’s most productive economic centers, and erodes the tax base that funds essential public services.

State agencies serve as anchor institutions in employment centers throughout California. In Sacramento, they occupy more than 60% of the downtown office market, according to Department of General Services (DGS) and CoStar data.i As a result, state workplace policies carry significant economic and fiscal consequences – impacts that AB 1729 largely ignores.

While AB 1729 requires reporting on projected savings within state agencies, it provides no mechanism to evaluate the corresponding fiscal impacts shifted onto local governments and taxpayers. Property tax, sales tax, transit occupancy tax, and related revenues that fund essential public services throughout entire jurisdictions depend on healthy, circular economic activity in high occupancy commercial centers. These fiscal outcomes are closely tied to land use and transportation policies that shape residential and employment patterns, infrastructure utilization, and regional mobility.

Policies that encourage permanent or predominantly remote work diminish the value of employment centers, weakening the economic clustering that drives commercial investment, business activity, and local tax generation. State telework policies reduce Sacramento’s economic activity by more than $218.5 million annually, according to an estimate in a 2023 report by Varshey & Associates.ii

Moreover, downtown Sacramento commercial office values have declined by $800 million since 2020.iii Those effects ultimately weaken the tax base local governments rely upon to fund police, fire, parks, education, infrastructure, and other essential services. These indicators demonstrate why evaluating only state-level office savings provides an incomplete fiscal picture.”

What happened to Sacramento Radio?

I moved to SF a couple years ago. Visiting my daughter.

Scanning through the radio stations while driving around Arden. And man, iheart radio really did a number on Sacramento radio stations. The best ones weren’t even really mainstream. I found 91.5 Del Campo, KDVS 90.3 (my alma mater), 89.5 KVMR, 97.5 KDEE.

Heard Smells Like Teen Spirit playing at the same time on two different stations. Just a head scratcher.

Just ranting.

Xfinity price in midtown

My Xfinity 1 gbps went up from the $70 promotional price to $124. What else are midtown folks paying for Xfinity, what plan do you have, and what download speeds are you getting?

I've never been able to get past about 40 megabytes/second on Xfinity with my current router, which I own, even though the 1 gigabit per second should be about 125 megabytes per second.

Also, does anyone have any tips for negotiating the price down? Do I have to be rude and aggressive? State that "X is my maximum price and all I can afford?" I've never had to haggle with an ISP before so I'm clueless.

Thanks in advance.

Looking for fellow treasure hunters

I just moved back to California after 4 years in Virginia. While in VA I took up metal detecting and fell in love with digging up history. I’m now looking for anyone in the area that is also into metal detecting, magnet fishing, treasure hunting. Let me know!
