Is 2.5 hours of my day worth $7 in savings?

Gas prices are hitting us all. As I drive to and from work, I've been wondering if I can get to work riding my bike & taking the light rail to work.

Driving: 38 miles a day. My car gets about 25 mpg, so my commute uses 1.5 gal per day discounting sitting in traffic. Adding on traffic & lights, I came to around just over 2 gal, so about $12 a day just to go to and from work. My commute takes about 80-100 minutes to and from work

Bike-Light Rail-Bike: I have an e-bike I can borrow. I would have to bike about 20-30 minutes to the Folsom station, ride 1 hour to the end of the Gold Line at Sac Valley Station, then bike another 30-40 minutes, depending on the route. One way Light Rail fare is $2.50, so $5 total for the day. Total commute would be around 4 hours, if Light Rail is running smoothly

I have to be at work by 8am, and I'm out the door usually around 4:30pm. Do you think it's worth with?

Best Detroit Pizza in Sac?

Looking for recommendations on THE BEST Detroit pizza in Sacramento. My favorite used to be the touchstone deep dish before the chef left and they switched recipes. Haven’t had anything like it since. And it was favorite dinner by far. Thank you in advance!

Sacramento or Tulare County family of 4 young parents

I have a job offer in sac with starting salary of $170k my wife and I are young parents with two little ones (6yo and 2yo) I make the same pay in Tulare county right now which is lucky wages around here. Wife is SAHM and would like to have the luxury of keeping it that way at least while our youngest is not in school.

We are under 30 and despite rapid career growth, it’s been a decent financial struggle (was making minimum wage 6 years ago). We don’t have a whole lot saved up.

Rent here for a 3b2 home is 1900 per month in the best school district. Seems like comparable rent out there for school district and home size will require a 1k premium.

Then there is the home buying goal. You can buy a home in Tulare County in the 300k range still and be generally fine with the purchase. New homes start at 400k. Meanwhile in Sac, it seems like there is a +200k -300 premium.

We have lived in and love the Bay Area which is what makes Sacramento appealing. I just feel crazy for even bothering to try. It feels like I should just accept that I am living in the last frontier of California home affordability and hold it down in Tulare county. My oldest is already six!! What would you do??

For the record, Tulare County is in between Fresno and Bakersfield. Strong ag industry, lots of Mexican culture. Hot, dusty, but it is home. Sequoia national park to the east. Very pretty but not accessible the way Tahoe is.

Veterinarian Recs?

Shopping around for a vet, we’ve gone to Pet Food Express for vaccines as well as Broadway. One has been pricey, the other is quick service. Anybody have recommendations for a vet? This week my 5 year old doggo started coughing after playing catch and coughs at night when she plays hard. After googling, it sounds like heart issues, kennel cough etc ruled out since she’s not around any other pets.

Does anyone know of an old style/un renovated movie theater in Sacramento that my boyfriend and I can go to watch the new backrooms movie in? I included some pictures for reference of what I’m looking for if you aren’t familiar with the backrooms.

Seriously, at what point do we go on strike?

Everyday the cost of living in California continues to skyrocket, and our pay as public employees continues to be inadequate. To me it seems obvious that California's leaders have continued to prioritize their own gain over the greater good of the public and those who serve the public.

Every all-employee meeting we have the same question about pay disparity comes up. Our leaders respond in the same way in that they agree its wrong, but then turn around and do nothing. At minimum our leaders could publicly acknowledge the disparity and show their support, be present with the union bargaining and genuinely stand with us, but it seems that none of our leaders want to stick their neck out to show their support, or they are just disingenuous and continue to placate us.

Years ago you could afford a nice single family home on a single teacher's salary in California, now 2 state employees combined income is a far cry from home ownership, or just keeping up on your bills and cost of living.

At what point do we stop waiting for leadership to care enough to help, and we organize to show our frustration publicly?

EDIT: Yes, I understand there is a no strike clause in the contract, but the union can strike due to impasse.

Any recommendations on a massage place? (No funny business)

I’m genuinely looking for a place to get a proper back massage because my back is simply DYING. And I know it’s funny to say

*”haha he just wants to get a happy ending.”*

I don’t. I really don’t. I just want to get this tension out of my body so I can actually sleep somewhat peacefully. Any recommendations?

To the guy who’s dog bit mine!

Fuck you for just walking away after hearing how my dog was screaming when your dog attacked mine and not even so much as apologizing!

This happened at partner dog park near Freeport area, his brown pit-mix(I hate that it was a pit-mix cause I love pits!) attacked my pup viciously and he didn’t even grab his dog! He just walked to the other side of the park!

FYI... SMF Terminal B has almost no food options open right now

They just closed 15L.

Burgers and Brew is closed. Famous Famiglia is closed. Esquire Grill is closed. Vino is closed. Starbucks is closed. Pete's is closed.

All that's open is West Coast Sourdough, Sidewalk Juice, and Wendys.

From what I can tell there isn't a single place to get a beer before your flight in terminal B.

Who's bright idea was to renovate all the restaurants at the same time?

Black cat still missing near Florin Road

My cat, Mama Gigi, has been missing since around 11/29/2022 in the Diegel Circle/Hogan Drive area, Golf Course Terrace Estates.

She is a skinny, all black cat with a small bit of white fur on her chest. She has yellowish greenish eyes and is a little cross-eyed. She's a skittish indoor cat. If anyone has seen her please send me a message. ❤️😢

Best place to donate to?

I have some women's clothing and backpacks and unworn socks, I'd rather not donate to goodwill or other corporations though

any good BYOF bars/brew spots in Sacramento grid?

wondering if there are any good pubs, bars, breweries where you can bring in outside food (like a Corti Bro's sandwich) that are in the grid area?

on top of that -- where is the best spot to eat a Corti Bro's sandwich (other than your own home)?
