Bring Kids Back to Ukraine!! At the Capitol Tomorrow, Please Show Up to Support!!

I'm a supporter of this, and wanted to share. (Pics are from Feb 24 Ukraine rally at the Capitol.) Please join us to show your support!!!

Sunflower Society of Sacramento would like to welcome you to a deeply meaningful symbolic installation, Bring Kids Back. This installation was founded by the organization Razom for Ukraine, and is dedicated to the children of Ukraine who have been abducted during war.

This installation features 20,000 teddy bears, each representing a Ukrainian child who has been deported, forcibly transferred, or separated from family as a result of Russia’s war against Ukraine. First displayed on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., the exhibit serves as a powerful reminder of the urgent need to secure the return of these children and support international efforts to protect their human rights.

Bring Kids Back will be traveling across America as a powerful expression of solidarity to bring abducted Ukrainian children home, and a commitment to protecting the world’s most vulnerable in times of war. Sacramento is its third stop.

3d printing question?

First, thank you to everyone who gave feedback for my incoming freshman son on the bike situation there, and archery, much appreciated!!

One more question, he also wants to bring his 3d printer, which almost brings a tear to my eye. He really loves that printer. But I would guess there's not room in the dorms for it, and the college has better printers available anyway, right?

Thank you in advance!!

Bike, e-bike, e-scooter?

Proud parent here, my son will be there soon as a freshman! He won't have a car, just wondering if he should bring a bike, e-bike, or e-scooter? Any feedback appreciated!!

Also do they have an archery team or club? He's pretty good, but it was only a club at his high-school.

Seeking Vendors and Art Donations for Food/Diaper Drive for NCR

We're planning another food & diaper drive at the Howe & Arden anti-ICE protest on July 18th (noon to2pm), and currently looking for vendors and art donations to help out! Proceeds will go to NorCal Resist, to help our immigrant community.

There's no fee to be a vendor, but of course donations are appreciated. The last event got a huge amount of food, and about $1k in donations, which NorCal Resist put to very good use!

If you're interested please contact: puttergunkmomster@gmail.com

Thanks in advance!!

This Saturday: 1 Year of Anti-ICE Protests at Howe & Arden!!

One year ago brothers Allen and Tommy decided to start an anti-ICE protest on the corner of Howe & Arden, to push back on all of the raids and masked Gestapo thugs terrorizing our community. Many of us Tesla Takedown folks started getting involved, along with a lot of other everyday people who hadn't protested in decades, and many others who had never protested even once in their lives!

It's been a wild ride, but after 1 year we're still out there (in the heat or the rain) connecting directly with our community and saying that were are NOT ok with what is happening to our country!!

Please join us this Saturday from noon to 2pm to continue pushing back against the cruelty and thuggery that's being inflicted on our immigrant neighbors!!

Pics are from last Saturday at this protest.

Is there any group out there trying to resist the stupid scooter laws??

Seriously, even on the west coast of California here, the politicians are cracking down on E-bikes and scooters and such. Is there any organization against this?

Ranked Choice Voting in Sacramento Won't Be on November Ballot

I got an email yesterday from Better Ballot Sacramento, and unfortunately Ranked Choice Voting will not be on the ballot in Sacramento this November:

"Our campaign to enact Ranked Choice Voting for Sacramento’s local elections today faces a good news/bad news situation.

The good news is Mayor McCarty has granted our request and referred a measure to the City Council’s Law & Legislation Committee. The measure, if passed by the Council, will allow Sacramento’s voters to vote on whether to adopt Ranked Choice Voting for future City Council elections!

The bad news is the June 9th Law & Legislation Committee meeting has been cancelled, and our measure will not be heard in time to land on the November 3rd ballot. Instead, we’re on course to land on the 2028 ballot.

While we’re disappointed to learn of this delay, we’re also encouraged that the Council is moving forward with advancing and deliberating upon the measure. We have strong support from our City Council, with a majority of members publicly declaring they support Ranked Choice Voting — and they support putting it on the ballot!

At the same time, as kind of a “Plan B,” we’re still pursuing placing the measure on the ballot by petition! To do it by petition requires gathering the signatures of 67,000 voters. So far we have just over 22,000. While we’ve missed our deadline to make the 2026 ballot, we are going strong to make the 2028 ballot by petition.

We are as dedicated and optimistic as ever! While the window for 2026 has closed, we are in an extremely strong position to qualify for 2028, one way or another.

We do still need your help - and there are many ways you can volunteer! (1) help collect signatures, (2) contact City Council, or (3) help us coalition-build!"

-------

You can read the full email here, which includes more information about how to volunteer and get involved!

NO PUBLIC MONEY FOR SPORTS STADIUMS WHATSOEVER!!!!! Looking at you, West Sacramento...

Improve our public transit, build affordable housing, repair our roads, pay teachers $250k starting with college loan forgiveness with public money....but NO public money to billionaires for stadiums that could bankrupt our cities.

Organize protests and public vote referendums 🗳!! The people DO NOT SUPPORT PUBLIC FUNDIND FOR STADIUMS THAT BILLIONAIRES CAN ENTIRELY FUND THEMSELVES!!

10lb Chub of Ground Beef for $2.99/lb at Food Maxx

I haven't bought ground beef for a while now because it's just insanely expensive. But saw this 3-day sale at Food Maxx and had to go for it! But apparently nobody told the meat department about the sale, and they didn't have any of the 10lb chubs ready for sale. They had to make some phone calls and figure it out, but I did get it eventually!

Thought others might like to know about this. Anyone else seeing good sales out there for meat?

CA 06 Congressional Candidate Interviews on YouTube Now!

I got this info from Yolo Indivisible and wanted to share! They setup interviews for the Democrats in the race, and put them on YouTube so we can check them out and make an informed decision.

As you probably know, your district might have changed due to the passage of Prop 50 last November. The new 6th district includes West Sac, Parts of North and East Sac, Citrus Heights, Roseville and Rocklin. Hopefully the map image above is helpful, I took it from Ballotpedia.

From Yolo Indivisible: Congressional District CD6 - Candidate Forum Interviews

Indivisible Yolo’s West Sacramento Action Circle is proud to present California Congressional District 6 candidate interviews that were conducted May 6-7, 2026.

The videos are unedited. We invited the five Democrat candidates to participate (Guerrero, Ho, Pan, Tomlinson and Vandenberg). All of them accepted our invitation and were then sent the list of questions the day before their interview.

View the interviews on Indivisible Yolo's YouTube account: https://www.youtube.com/@indivisibleyolo3629

Tyler Vandenberg: https://youtu.be/EB2a0duwttA

Lauren Babb Tomlinson: https://youtu.be/sMKxUKoFNMw

Martha Guerrero: https://youtu.be/YVuMNs6wcDY

Dr. Richard Pan: https://youtu.be/cHJh2D_DKDM

[Edit to clarify: Mr. Ho accepted the invitation but was unable to attend due to a scheduling conflict.]

New PG&E Energy Savings Program is Working!

Anyone else lose power? Got a notice that it'll probably be restored by 11:45pm. 😬

But I went to Town Center and they still seemed to have power, so if you're having trouble cooking dinner that's an option.

Best to-go ravioli?

I grew up here and LOVED the Italian culture and food. The restaurants, food festivals, home cooked, etc.

But my kids have mostly grown up eating frozen store bought ravs, and I want to bring them some of the real shit. Preferably to-go and affordable.

Recommendations?

Join Us for "Pint of Politics" this Sunday!

Please come out and join us for "Pint of Politics" this Sunday! It's a fun casual event with lots of political groups, speakers, candidates, etc.

They don't publish the speakers/groups in advance, but I know that the Ranked Choice Voting folks will be there (and there has been a lot of interest about that issue in this sub). There will also be some discussion about the recent Supreme Court decision against the Voting Rights Act, and how groups are pushing back against voter disenfranchisement.

In addition Annie Fisher, who's running for Sacramento County Board of Education in District 1, will explain why this race matters so much to parents and non-parents alike. There will also be a canvassing training, to get ready for the upcoming political campaigns.

And in the past this event has featured groups like NorCal Resist, CalCare, the Chris Bennet campaign, McClatchy High School Student Political Advocacy and Resistance Collective, Gender Health Center, Indivisible Sacramento, Third Act, Sister District, and many more! I assume many of these groups will be there again.

This is from 2-4pm at Oak Park Brewing Co, 3514 Broadway, Sacramento. Hope you can come out, get informed on current issues, and find ways to get involved!

And please share this with anyone you think might be interested!

Thanks to everyone who came out today to protest against ICE, and to everyone who honked, waved, and showed your support!! Here are some pics from today.

Also wanted to thank congressional candidate Tyler Vandenberg (u/tv4ca) for showing up, talking to people, and answering questions about his campaign! He's running in the new 6th district, which includes West Sacramento and parts of Sacramento as well. From Tyler:

"I'm a seven-year Marine Corps Veteran, a Jeopardy! Champion, and a proud Great Society Democrat. I have a simple platform of three basic pillars:

  1. Hold the Trump Administration Accountable.
  2. Rebuild Our Great Society.
  3. Ensuring America is Safe for Everyone.

I run a people-powered, grassroots campaign with no corporate PAC or foreign-linked PAC money. I'm aiming to host another AMA soon to answer questions from the community; I very much look forward to answering any you may have here as well."

Finally I'll mention that Yolo Indivisible is currently doing recorded interviews with each of the congressional candidates, and will post them soon on Youtube. I'll put up a new post about it once it's published. Personally I have not made up my mind yet, and don't really know most of the candidates, so I'll be excited to watch this!
