That section between the Bridge District and the Branch Line Trail is already dangerous enough, and then they pull some shit like this, blocking the bike lane completely. There were cars coming past me so I couldn't go left into the street, so I went right onto what I thought was asphalt. But, they apparently dug up the asphalt recently, so it was sandy dirt, and I crashed my scooter.
THANK YOU to the folks who stopped to ask if I was ok!! Fortunately I have a good helmet, it did contact the pavement, but my head is ok. I'm a little scraped up and bleeding, but mostly just angry that the city would do this.
Councilwoman Verna Sulpizio Hull rang my doorbell, and I had some questions about her positions on issues. First, what did she think about ICE?? She said she was vehemently against ICE, and then we high-fived! I won't repeat the exact wording.
About Flock cameras (and similar ones), the Police Chief claims there are protections on ALPR cameras and all that, and they supposedly deal with abuses of the system. Verna says she believes this is accurate, and supports these cameras if they're being used properly. I'm a little skeptical on this subject though.
She also said she's involved with local activist groups like Indivisible, and really seemed to have a lot of knowledge about grassroots activism locally.

Had a great time at the Mediterranean Food Festival in West Sac tonight, and wanted to share! The food was delicious, the wine and beer were flowing, the hookahs were bubbling - all along with festive music and dancing!
I also had a chance to talk to the priest, he was cool, and wanted to make sure everything was perfect for the event, even walking around adjusting the lighting and such. He said they have other events throughout the year too, and are available for weddings. It's a pretty sweet setup they have there.
Also chatted with the lady serving baklava (soo good!), she said her son was the one who put up the post on Reddit about this event that "blew up". I told her she had a good son.
And my favorite Ukrainian activist redditor happened to be there too, it was good to catch up on what's happening to support Ukraine.
Talking with the homies, we all agreed that we should find more food festivals like this to attend!! Anyone have any favorites you want to share??
That's right, just 55 days until the midterm elections! Nervous? Anxious?? The best way to deal with that is to get involved and help make this a big win for progressives! There are still plenty of opportunities to write postcards and phone bank for progressive candidates, learn about election monitoring, and much more!! Thanks to everyone who showed up today at the Anti-ICE protest to donate over 6,000 diapers and soo many wipes!! We dropped them off to NorCal Resist, and helped fill their pantry for the immigrant community!

In recent months, ICE has deployed a round-the-clock digital dragnet to scour the public internet—from Facebook to Instagram to X—for speech that could endanger the agency’s mission. The government has paid millions to private contractors to surface everything from potential threats to agents to activities that could disrupt ICE’s operations, according to federal documents, contractors and former Homeland Security Investigations agents.
The program has ensnared U.S. citizens and activist groups that alert community members about ICE activity. Contractors prepare daily reports and dossiers on threat actors, identifying the poster’s name, location, date of birth, workplace, Social Security number, vehicle registration and criminal history when possible.
To unmask anonymous online critics, DHS has sent hundreds of subpoenas to social-media companies, according to people familiar with the matter. Its agents have tracked down Americans at work and on the road, asking them to sign letters acknowledging their online speech about ICE “may” be a crime.
DHS says it is trying to protect its agents and their families from “coordinated campaigns of violence” that have fueled an 8,000% increase in death threats since Trump took office.
But civil-rights lawyers and former DHS staffers say the approach has swept up people expressing opinions that are protected by the First Amendment.
“As far as I can tell, all of this is about people saying naughty things about ICE and immigration enforcement,” said Lauren Regan, a civil-rights attorney who has represented multiple people investigated by the government over their online speech. “Nothing that comes close to true threats.”
An agency spokesperson said that ICE’s investigative methods abide by the Constitution and respects civil liberties and privacy interests. “Any allegation DHS and ICE are attempting to ‘squash’ free speech is categorically FALSE,” the spokesperson said. “ICE investigates all credible threats towards its employees, officers and families.”

Sacramento religious leaders can no longer hold pro-immigrant monthly prayer vigils outside the John Moss Federal Building downtown.
A security guard at the building delivered the news last week to Sacramento Area Congregations Together, a coalition of faith-based community organizations. The group began organizing the vigils in October following reports of detainment by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE’s Sacramento Enforcement and Removal Operation Office is located at the federal building along with offices for several other federal agencies.
Last year, reports surfaced that ICE was keeping people overnight for consecutive days with limited water, little access to restrooms and no air conditioning. The building has also been the location of many ICE arrests in Sacramento under President Donald Trump’s second term.
“We wanted to sort of be a moral witness to the situation and also let people know that we were praying with and for them, and being in solidarity with them,” said Sacramento ACT’s Executive Director Tere Flores Onofre.
The vigils — held at the corner of 7th Street and Capitol Mall — typically involved music, singing and prayers from members of different faiths, including Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Buddhist. Sacramento ACT is comprised of more than 56 congregations, schools and neighborhood groups.

We're famous here in California for over-regulating just about everything, so it's fitting that our EV laws are confusing and stupidity strict (but rarely enforced).
Still, I think this graphic is a pretty good attempt to explain the nonsense. The local school district sent this out before the start of the next school year.
My counter proposal:
*Helmets for everyone, and full face helmets over 15mph
*Under 15y/o cannot go over 15mph
*California legislature please find something useful to do with your time that actually helps people
I am not a state employee, but (living in the Sacramento area) of course have friends who are. When the state went to telework, one friend told me that sexual harassment cases in that department dropped off significantly.
I recently mentioned this to another friend who is also a state employee, and got into a discussion about how exactly someone could obtain those statistics. I'm not going to make it my cause, but thought it might be a good thing for the unions and everyone here to discuss.
Sexual harassment is one category to look into, but also workplace injuries, violence, etc could yield some interesting results.
Personally I have to drive for work, so I prefer ya'll stay off the roads and do your jobs from home. And save us tax $$.

Now is the time to stand up, join us, and tell our neighbors and country that we will not sit by silently in the face of injustice!! Please pick just one protest near you, and come out to join us!!
Maine ICE shooting: Joan Sebastian Guerrero ID'd as 26-year-old killed
"The fatal shooting by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer of a Colombian man in Maine was just the latest of incidents that have renewed calls for investigations and scrutiny on immigration operations around the country.
The man, identified by lawmakers as 26-year-old Joan Sebastian Guerrero, was shot and killed Monday morning in Biddeford, a city about 15 miles south of Portland, Maine, according to the Department of Homeland Security. He was authorized to work in the United States and was the father of a 3-year-old daughter.
DHS said the man tried to flee the scene during an attempted traffic stop, and "fearing for public safety, an officer discharged his weapon." It's an explanation similar to those given for other ICE shootings in the United States."
