I am in China now, 4th day and first squat encounter. I am confused where to face. This picture I found online (but it doesn’t have a splash guard behind the hole part) and it shows when the place the feet. Is this right?

When peeing, guess it doesn’t matter much where you face but what if one needs to do a dump? If you do like the pic, wouldn’t the poo be not in the hole? Is the Chinese squat like the old German toilet?

I didn’t know how before I went in and I first did the opposite of this pic but then my ass hit the bump/splash guard. So I turned around. But the hole not under my bum really confused me.

Help.
