Victim Of Identity Theft, Need Advice !
Hello all,
My name is Julia, and as of an hour ago I just found out someone opened a amazon/chase account in my name (2k limit) and made some purchases including a water company and electricity payment as well as DoorDash !
Noticed on my credit report a new account from chase and went to a branch to report the fraudulent account. I was given the scammers address and phone number and was planning on some revenge mail scheme but changed my mind as the scammers could’ve very well just used a random address and swiped the mail.
As for the transactions, clearly they weren’t me and the bank informed me that they successfully cancelled the account. I wouldn’t be held responsible for those charges correct ? And what happens to those charges ? I’m assuming the bank either cancels them somehow or create a report with the police or something.
Any comments regarding this would be very helpful
