Build quality issues 3 years in

3 years into owning my steam deck and pretty light use, I have the issue when the battery no longer holds a charge. A combination of luck and the battery reset BIOS trick brought it back to normal twice before but this time seems not to be working and honestly I don’t want my user experience to be constantly fretting about this sort of thing.

Steam support quoted 225€ as an estimate for repairs, quite high considering the age of the deck. Makes me wonder about the longevity of this device. I notice a lot of battery swell issues on the Reddit.

In stark contrast my Nintendo DS still lasts for days and never had a single problem……

Discussion: what game made you think “we don’t need better graphics than this” ?

Reading up on the price hike for switch, the last of the consoles to buckle under ramagedon, seems inevitable that we are all going to be stuck with our configurations for a while. Seems realistic to assume that developers will have to make games for current hardware for a longer period than the usual generational cycle.

It got me thinking about how big a deal this actually is because, for me personally, graphics were already good enough to impress me when the DOOM reboot was released. Sure other games have come along with better graphics but this seemed more like a gentle slope upon a plateau rather than leaps and bounds.

So I wonder for everyone else what was the game that made you think “graphics don’t need to be better than this”
