Stop buying Speed Star

Stop buying Speed Star

I see a lot of posts on this subreddit complaining about "Fraud Motion gave me Prepared to Pass", or "I glued my run because Fraud Motion didn't give me Speed Star", my brother in christ, you shouldn't be buying Speed Star anyway, let's analyse the skill:

https://preview.redd.it/rjlsddg6mckh1.png?width=346&format=png&auto=webp&s=596de519b7642f16f17fdf1b428cc46a5dae470a

Per Gametorra for the above screenshot, the conditions are, a random point on the final corner if you are in the top 5, increase target speed by 0.35 for 1.8 seconds.

Comparing with other gold velocity skills and their effective distance gain:

  • Professor of Curvature: 0.35 target speed for 2.4s = 0.84m
  • Escape Artist: 0.35 target speed for 3s = 1.05m
  • Unstoppable: 0.35 target speed for 2.4s = 0.84m

And with white velocity skills:

  • Distance/Style Corners/Straightaways O: 0.15 target speed for 3s = 0.45m
  • Distance/Style Corners/Straightaways OO: 0.25 target speed for 3s = 0.75m
  • Corner Adept: 0.15 target speed for 2.4s = 0.36m

Compare the above to speed star, 0.35 * 1.8 = 0.63m

Speed Star has worse velocity gain than all other generic gold velocity skills, and is even worse than double circle Distance/Style Corners/Straightaways. The cost of double circle Distance/Style Corners/Straightaways with skill hints is ~150 - 200 skill points, compared to Speed Star which is 360 sp without hints.

You might be wondering why is there this discrepancy between Speed Star and other velocity skills? It's because of it's activation condition on the final corner, the main use of Speed Star is speed carry over. Speed carry over is when a target velocity skill overlaps with the start of the acceleration zone, meaning you enter the zone at a higher base velocity, meaning you get a head start on your acceleration. A lot of tracks in Sprint/Mile/Medium distance have accel zones somewhere around the final corner, and generally there is where Speed Star gets its value.

HOWEVER

If you do the actual math on a lot of courses, the % chance of Speed Star actually giving speed carry over is very small. Take the upcoming CM18, Hanshin 1600m mile track, which I will use Umalator for analysis:

On this track, Speed Star has an effective duration of 2.88s, and in distance terms this is ~60m

https://preview.redd.it/ei8zhrf5pckh1.png?width=623&format=png&auto=webp&s=e761cd9ddabcc4922b8b48f4af182258bad884f6

The final corner stars at 800m, and ends at 1127m which = 327m window. The late race starts at 1067m, in order for Speed Star to carry over on this track, its random activation point has to lie between 1010 - 1150m for the carry over to take decent effect, that's a 40m window.

The % chance of Speed Star activating during the 40m window from a possible random selection of 327m is 40 / 327 = 12.32%

You are spending 360 skill points on a 12% chance for a speed carry over.

If it activates later than this window it gets eaten by the accel zone, before this window and it's just a very poor value mid race velocity skill. It doesn't matter if Fraud Motion finishes her event chain before make debut and gives you prepared to pass, you shouldn't be buying Speed Star anyway, unless it's for a team trials Uma, then complain away I guess, but for CM stop buying this skill and stop looking for this skill.

Isn't SR Fukukitaru Wit insanely strong?

https://preview.redd.it/zy74umkoudjh1.png?width=649&format=png&auto=webp&s=0bcc73923714431394c6a98fc2d73ee916ebe434

She has the same stat output as SSR MLB Curren, she has 40 starting friendship, same as Daiwa SR, both of these everyone was recommending as a wit alternative for GL, but I saw no mention of fuku wit. She also gives guaranteed right handed, which is applicable to 5/6 CMs this scenario. The only downside is slightly low specialty priority, but the math on speciality prio makes that almost negligible, you will be rolling for a high run anyway. What am I missing here?

Wish we could skip ahead to CM18

So I couldn't really care about dirt medium x oguri slop, I've decided to start making CM18 aces instead. It seems like a really fun track, nearly every position has something viable. Fronts have A&S + final push, pace have budding blossom, head-on and straight descent, lates have pump + leap forward from new daichi ruby card and OYL, end have straightaway spurt and king halo cheerleader, if you are REALLY CRINGE then you can even go after-school stroll X Oguri end closer. The stam requirement is much more manageable also, and my oshi fine motion is basically hand crafted for these Autumn mile/medium tracks, I made an insane one as you can see above. I'm hoping there wont be too much Keen Eye + Dominator + 564 debuffers, atleast I hope it wont be as bad as the current CM. Overall I'm finding miles to be the funnest of all CMs, basically anyone can win on these tracks, it has just the right variety of RNG, consistency and availible options. I really wish we could just fast forward 2 weeks and pretend the X Oguri spam fest doesn't exist and get to an actual decent CM track

Yaeno Muteki + Gold City Auto Training Bug

So there is a bug with Yaeno Muteki and Gold City in auto training where one of their special events just procs indefinetly, leading to ridiculous stats and SP like pic related. This is currently in Unity, When GL drops soon, it's not clear if the bug will carry over to the new scenario, or if it's a Unity specific bug, but if it does carry over then GL will inflate the stat lines more and make these even more ridiculous. If cygames doesn't fix this then we might see bugged Yaeno's/Shichis taking over the next CM depending on how powerful the auto training in GL is

*Note the pic isn't mine, took it from a user on a discord server

Being given work way beyond my capabilities, what to do

I'm a Junior graduate engineer at a big-tech company, FAANG adjacent or whatever you want to call it., coming up on 1 YOE, about 5 months experience in my current project area due to a reorg.

I've been given a task that I feel is way beyond my means, the project is backend infrastructure work for the companies auth token service. There has been talks about expanding the service to provide extra functionality to users, I've been given the task of doing a full scale design document + POC outlining how to implement this feature, do trade off analysis, show a working imlementation, and present this at a design forum.

The project area is inside a giant monorepo, it's heavily nested deep within the overall architecture, has a huge blast radius, dozens of teams with years of work involved, massive security risk for any changes. I feel like it would take weeks or even months to even partially understand the whole flow of what's going on in there, even longer to actually start working on a major architectural overhaul. I've been given a tight deadline which is rapidly approaching, I'm working with a senior engineer who is experienced in this area, I generally send work I do to them for review to see if I'm on the right track.

I'm trying to utiise AI to help me but it's not producing good results, I've done 2-3 renditions now and shared with the senior and they keep coming back saying the work is not good. I can't help but feel that 2-3 years ago I would not have been given a task like this, but with AI they expect me to do it, but evidently like I said the AI it is not quite up to par, or atleast I am not using right. I havent brought this up with my manager, I feel like the only way I can word my grievances are "I am unable to do this task", which I am afraid of how that will look on my performance review.

What's the best way of going about this situation, do I bite the bullet and just request my manager to hand it to someone else?

Palm of the Dreamer vs Sacred Flame

I'm running Sacred Flame Shrine Sceptre in my off-hand as a generic COC + COEA spark build, and looking for ways to upgrade the build. I see some people running Palm of the Dreamer, which is currently around ~200 div, and I'm wondering what makes it so powerful compared to sacred flame. I'm running CI so swapping fire res aura for chaos res is an immediate downgrade, POTD has gain 27% as extra chaos vs Sacred Flame ~50% as extra fire, it seems like a straight downgrade. Is Dreaming Gloom Shrine effect really that strong to make it so expensive, or what am I missing here?
