The Day 2 Guys - Cleveland Browns Draft Picks: Austin Barber and Parker Brailsford
These draft picks were a tale of two cities for me. One I loved, and one I disagreed with. The Browns finally made a questionable draft pick, but I love taking swings at offensive lineman especially for the Browns. I'm curious if Browns fans think Barber can stick at tackle in the NFL.
As always, I'll post as much as I can on here about the two picks and if you want to keep reading it will take you to a free SubStack link. If you don't have SubStack just message me and I'll send you the entire write-up as it's too long to post on here.

The Cleveland Browns traded three picks (105, 145, 206) in the 2026 NFL draft to trade up for Austin Barber with the 86th pick.
Austin Barber was a high three‑star recruit from Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Florida, where he was a multi‑sport athlete in basketball and football. He was a state football champion his senior year. Barber was ranked as the No. 47 offensive tackle in the 2021 class by 247Sports. Standing 6’7” and 300 pounds, Barber drew more than 30 scholarship offers thanks to his size and athleticism. Programs across the Power 4 conferences pursued him, including the in‑state University of Florida Gators and University of Miami Hurricanes.
Barber initially committed to the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota, but later flipped his pledge to stay home with the University of Florida—a move that proved wise. He developed into a third‑round pick of the Cleveland Browns, validating his decision.
Austin Barber logged five seasons at the University of Florida, amassing 2,500 offensive snaps, 2,087 at left tackle and 490 at right tackle. Over that span he surrendered 11 sacks and 61 total pressures. Barber was flagged for seven penalties in 2025. Barber underwent shoulder surgery following his redshirt sophomore season to repair a lingering shoulder injury sustained earlier that season.
Redshirt-Senior Season - Florida vs. Miami: This was my first time exclusively watching Barber play in a game. This was a particularly tough matchup for him; he was tasked with blocking two future first round NFL draft picks Rueben Bain and Ahkeem Mesidor. In the first half, Barber and the Gators saw limited action as the University of Florida offense struggled to find rhythm. Barber’s play was steady but largely uneventful until the closing stretch of the first half, when a rough four‑snap sequence disrupted his momentum. They were fortunate to trail only 7‑0 at halftime given the disjointed play of the offense.

This clip (thanks to Cam Cut Ups) shows the first snap of those four consequential snaps. The first clip shows Ahkeem Mesidor splitting between Barber and the left guard exploiting a protection breakdown where Barber failed to help his left guard in time(2:03 in the YouTube clip). The guard was the primary blocker, and Barber slid over to assist, but his help was late and ineffective. Mesidor knifed cleanly between them, nearly recording a sack as the pocket collapsed. Barber responded with a textbook pass‑pro rep against Rueben Bain (2:11) in the clip. On the next snap (2:15), Bain sold an inside move, and Barber bit; he lunged forward, allowing Bain to rip back outside and pressure DJ Lagway into an early throw. The final snap (2:21) was worse—Barber got caught by an inside spin move from another rusher, again forcing Lagway to unload the ball prematurely.
The Florida Gators came out of halftime and bullied Miami down the field on a statement touchdown drive built on physicality. They leaned hard on the run game, and Barber delivered his best stretch of the night, consistently climbing to the second level to clear lanes for Florida’s running backs to get past the line of scrimmage. Barber handled Rueben Bain and Ahmad Moten throughout the drive, showing off his run‑blocking power. At the end of the third quarter, Barber gets charged with a sack on a speed to power rush by Mesidor where the running back chip blocks Mesidor. Barber backpedaled too far and initiated the contact too deep into the pocket. Mesidor beat him, and as a result, the quarterback Lagway was sacked. Though Lagway held the ball too long, Barber ultimately dropped too far back to allow himself the required amount of time to hold up for his quarterback.
