Olive Oil vs Coconut Oil for cooking / frying

This is a genuine question

Me and my mom have been debating what's better for general cooking / frying (eggs, bacon steaks etc.)

She's telling me that Virgin olive oil is bad for cooking as it's potentially hazardous or a carcinogen and should only be used for salads. But I've read that coconut oil is also bad for you (also health hazardous). I know in the end both are just fat but what are the downsides / benefits of either compared to seed oils,

Thanks in advance
