I went from a pretty nice apartment that was just slightly expensive and now I'm regretting moving completely and I wish I would've just made safer financial decisions, instead of moving because of price. This place is a nightmare... I paid $1660 for a 2br2ba and now I pay $1150 for a 2br1.5ba. You might think that's good savings but, when we first opened the door we were hit by this weird, overly ripe fruit cardboard musty smell. My dad tried to say it was the fresh paint but I couldn't shake some kind of feeling. I don't recall smelling this before in my life but maybe I haven't really put my finger on this until it was this bad. I've been really upset about it tbh... I went from a decent place and me just being stupid with financial decisions with trying different hobbies, to a place that makes me feel on edge, is unfinished, has baseboards that aren't in good shape, carpet that isn't tucked or sized all the way, gaps in walls or trim, everywhere, and cockroaches..... We have found at least two every night, if not more, since the first day we moved in. They said their pest control is routinely done twice a month, so we are having to wait till the 12th of May for them to do anything about it. We went from having our own full size top loader and dryer to now having two small front loading units that I don't even want to use because that closet area is super gross with all kinds of debris from the previous tenants, that's yet to be cleaned up. This sounds like the wrong subreddit but I promise it's not. With all this powerlessness, I decided to get some things to fight this. I bought Advion gel baits, Alpine WSG, and Tekko Pro. I still need to figure out the exact ways in which to locate hot spots. But there is a lot of information on this subreddit for that. I'm more worried about whether or not I can realistically get rid of this smell, even with killing all of them. I mean, I have an upstairs neighbor and I'm not sure if these roaches are linked to them or from the previous tenant of my unit. I'm just worried about all of my belongings because I have a big microscope and a bunch of electronics equipment for diagnosing failures and fixing stuff, which are expensive. I have lenses that are expensive and I also dabble in perfumery. I'm worried about some of my aroma chemicals getting affected by the smell. I've heard the roach smell can saturate your belongings. Making everything eventually smell roach like 😭. Our office at my old place was close to a cleanroom. I even have an inline fan duct system with an air filter box and an activated charcoal filter I can refill with scooping new stuff in, which was mainly for soldering fumes. Tbh I just want to go back there, I miss how clean everything was. Even if I had to sell all my belongings to go back there, I'd do it. I hate myself tbh
