Modern open world racing games with zero to hero progression?

Just bought and refunded forza horizon 6 because i was handed like 20 supercars upon opening the game. I realise that its because i bought the premium edition with all the car packs, but they shouldve locked them until the campaign was completed or given us the option of when to unlock the extra cars IMO.

Even if i hadnt gotten the premium edition, the game just throws cars at you left and right. Within the 1.5 hours i have in the game, they gave me a RAM TRX supercharged truck and enough money to buy like 7 other cars lmao.

Anyways sorry for the rant, im looking for something that starts you off in a shitbox(or at least a meh car) that you have to upgrade and use for a bit before moving on to better and better vehicles.

Game has to be open world, have good car customization, a well paced progression feeling, and ideally released in the last decade or so. Thanks guys.
