Looking For a Defense Attorney For a Civil Lawsuite

Urgently looking for a lawyer to handle a civil suit on a contract dispute in Broomfield County.  Someone hired to work on the house is now suing for “unpaid wages”.  We've caught them in numerous lies, their associate walked off with ~$2500 in undone work, the work they did was incredibly bad and cost us more to fix than it would have if they hadn't done any work(according to the next construction crew), they weren't licensed, destroyed tons of materials, and caused damages.  We thought it resolved when we'd agreed to a final amount but then got notice they're suing us.  Our counter suit is ~$20,000.  We really want a lawyer for this due to the stress it's causing so please don't say “just handle it yourself”.

How do I find a Lawyer For Contract Dispute in Colorado?

I've been trying to find a lawyer for 3 weeks and have been mostly getting requests to set up a consultation with no follow up, rejection, or straight out no responses.

This is getting urgent: I'm looking for a lawyer to handle a civil suit on a contract dispute.

Being Sued in Small Court and and considering counter suite that would take it to formal court (Colorado)

Hello,

About two years ago I have started a house flip projects with two business partners. One of whom was supposed to run the actual physical work and work with contractors - but has turned out incapable to doing the work as he described, so we parted way amicably.

We met another person who promised they'd be able to do the work, and we entered an agreement under the table, not much about it was documented(oh hindsight). Their capabilities also turned out to be a big problem, after slipping by two months and not being close to done, we parted ways as well - what I thought was being under good terms as well, with a reduced pay for what was done, and some additional work still to be completed in the yard.

They are now suing us for unpaid wages, material, and a wheel barrow(can't make this stuff up).

Location: Broomfield County, Colorado.

No element of scope of the work was completed, and after that final payment they never showed up to complete the work on the yard. Much material was wasted, the project's profitability tanked due to the time and money spent, and the work that was performed was shoddy and subsequent contractors had to perform fixes.

This has left me in a VERY bad financial position, and both myself and my other business partner had to move into the house before it was anywhere near properly inhabitable. There was a matter of some material that they claimed we owe them, which I said I'll pay when I am able to get money back into my accounts, but then when they never completed the yard scope, and we found the level of incompetence in the work I informed them that if they want their material payments back, they'll need to reimburse us for damages first(which is a lot more than material). There are no written agreements.

The outcome of my living conditions has caused my business partner and myself so much emotional stress, and financial damages that we are still not anywhere near completing the renovation work - though I was at least able to secure some funds to hire more established professionals.

the material costs that they MIGHT be able to claim would be under $2k, and if that was it, I might've been willing to negotiate something. But the lawsuite is for about $4.5k, and the claim for unpaid wages is completely frivolous, we paid them a final check for the work and shook hands on it being an acceptable compromise, despite draining my bank account to basically empty.

I have been trying to find a lawyer for the past 3 weeks, and have got some responses, most of them asking to schedule time, but then never responding once I provide time windows. Two lawyers I spoke with rejected the case. But I am desperately trying to find a lawyer to give me some advice about how to handle this, whether to file a counter suite that will take it outside of small claims (which will hopefully scale them away, I made peace with my losses and I don't want to deal with them. This person has an established pattern of lying and has been low-key bullying my business partner in social events they sometimes both attend).

How do I find a lawyer who will take a small case like this seriously?

I am low drama in my life and I always pay my dues (this is the first time I find myself lied to, and wronged to such an extent that I am past providing an olive branch). This is stressed me to the point I am struggling to function in my day to day activities, especially with the court date approaching next week.
