An "I am not understood" post, sorry

I just canceled with the hostess who's giving a party that I don't want to go to. She's my best friend, sort of, but she badgers me when I don't wear my hearing aids. To spare you a long story, I'm finally getting a new pair from the recalcitrant provider. When I was complaining that the aids didn't work right, she said, "You have to be very firm!" (I was.) And then, when the due date was pushed back to next Wednesday (and her party is today) I knew she'd give me crap for not having them yet. So I canceled.

Even when they're working properly, I don't wear them all that much. TV watching and going out with friends is about it. I am of an age where they say that one of the contributing factors to dementia is not wearing hearing aids, and social isolation. That's another thing she bugs me about. I'm a big introvert and when the pandemic happened it was like I was training my whole life for all that isolation.

This is getting pretty long, so I'll come to the point. She's one of these people who gets offended if I ask her to repeat herself. She's not alone. I'm to the point when I want to learn ASL and get with some people who understand. Too many people mumble, or "talk to their chest," as I call it, or say something when they're behind me or in the next room. I just want people to get it!

I told her a fib about canceling. I just can't make her understand that this is a real thing. It's like she thinks I made it up, or I can just snap out of it.

More about tats

Mods, I hope it's okay to post this here. It's a followup to my earlier "thinking of rads tats removal" post.

This is a link to a video about a group of breast cancer survivors who got some of the most life-affirming tattoos I've ever seen, and I say that as someone who isn't a fan of tattoos.

Enjoy!

Radiation tattoo removal?

I'm eleven years post-treatment and thinking about having my wee little radiation tats removed. A lot of tattoo places that do removal will do it for free for cancer patients. Trouble is, I need to provide a letter saying that it's okay to remove my tats, and I fired my oncologist for being a dick, and I don't remember the name of the radiation guy. The tattoo parlor person said that they'd accept a letter from my GP, but I've asked her to write too many letters as it is. ("Let this woman work from home" was one, and another letter I can't remember. Tat removal letter would make at least three letters.)

I should probably just let this go, as the tats are so tiny I hardly ever think about them. One is a teensy blue dot in my cleavage and the other is a darker one to the left of my left breast. Also, this would entail someone seeing my breasts! Not sure I want to do this.

I know, as posts in this community go, this is pretty small potatoes.

Mystery set in a girls' boarding school

I think the word "lake" in in the title, something like Dark Lake With Bodies. The main character is a woman who graduated from this school and has now returned to teach there. She's recently divorced and (I think) has a young daughter. Here is where it gets into specifics: it's located on a lake where girls have drowned, and always in groups of three. She's worried about one or more of her students. I think she teaches Latin or Greek, and the girls have picked names of classical characters. There's a woo-woo feeling about the book, but I don't think the mystery is supernatural. The book "feels" like Catherine House or The Secret History. There's a little bit of class conflict - rich students vs scholarship kids. The main character's ex turns up from time to time, but I think he's a red herring.

Any help you can provide will be much appreciated. Oh, and please don't spoil me. I never finished it!

Edited to say: I found it! I searched on "lake" in this sub, and found The Lake of Dead Languages!

The Princess check-in site has the option to request a bathrobe even though I only have a balcony room, not a mini-suite or suite. It allowed me to request it, and now I'm wondering if they're going to charge a fee that the site doesn't indicate. Do you know anything about this?
