Dentist wants me to get invisalign to fix my teeth and supposedly help my airway. But says I won't be able to get trays that work like a MAD to help with sleep. why?
My dentist is trying to get me to start using invisalign. Thats fine since I have alignment issues. I had braces as a teen and wore a retainer for many years, but over time my lower jaw moved backwards and my teeth went with them.
So my teeth are aligned as they are now but in that position I have difficulties with snoring and usually wear a mandibular advancement device. I don't have to wear it but it does seem to help with my sleep. My lower jaw is just too far back and is not big enough. A lot of people in my family have the same problem. Bad genes I guess lol.
I wouldn't mind having a nicer smile but I'm more concerned about being able to breathe right. My questions are 1- Why can't I get an invisalign setup that works like a MAD? Is that not possible? Invisalign has been around for so long I just thought this scenario would be more common. MADs arent super unique at this point are they?
And 2- Would this actually help my airway or not. I've done some reading on jaw surgery to move my lower jaw forward but the recovery on that is pretty scary. My dentist said repositioning my teeth would help but its like I cant get a straight answer from him about this.
I like my dentist but I dont know why I can't get answers from him on these questions. Its like he's evasive about it, I don't know how else to put it. If thats because of uncertainty thats part of procedures like this I can understand that to some extent but thats why I'm asking here. Can someone offer their perspective?
Thank you.
