Since the weather is still decent here I popped open the door to my train room, the sun is at a angle at this time of year where it shines on part of the layout (door has no windows so it's not a daily thing). With a bit of cloud cover to dim the intensity I decided I try a few photos. I had another angel I wanted to use with focus stacking but it didn't turn out as good as I hoped. I shot this with my phone so the quality isn't 100% after editing, but I do like it. Can't beat natural lighting for photos! I've been working on scenery a little bit on this part of the layout and I like what the sunlight does for it.

Running a few trains on my layout the other day. The track plan is a modified version of MR's Salt Lake Route, shortened to fit a 4x8 (original plan is 4x9). I've been slowly converting my fleet of Katos (100+) to DCC. I typically just video a pair of trains on the two mains but decided an SD40-2 "working" in the siding would add a bit of visual interest.

I've been slowing switching from DC over to DCC and doing decoder installs. This one locomotive has been giving me issues for a long while now. It is a new Kato ES44 (bought in January as part of their new release). I've put in five or six different DN147K1C decoders and have had no luck getting this thing to run. The lights flicker, so I know it's getting some electricity, but it won't move. I've programmed it and the lights flicker as they do with every other locomotive I've done. I've put the original DC board back in, runs fine. All the decoders that don't work with this one have done fine in other Kato locomotives I've installed them in.

I've removed and reapplied Kapton tape, added some more in a few spots thinking maybe there's a short. I just don't know. I'm at the point of putting the DC board back in, selling it and just buying a DCC-Installed version of this loco to save me the headache. Any thoughts?
