Why are indian "upper middle class" women short as well?
Not a ragebait but maybe I could have phrased the title better. Apologies for that.
So I've been working at a company in Mumbai for past 4 years which pays pretty well (this is an important detail) and this is something I recently noticed. The average height of Indians has been making rounds in a lot of subreddit's recently and I understand due to poor nutrition it is around 5'6 for men and some 5'1 for women? And a lot of comments are surprised by how low it is, which again is due to those people belonging to well to do communities who got good nutrition growing up.
So back to my company, the average height of men in my company definitely seems higher than the national average. If I had to guess it might be 5'9 with a few guys reaching 6 and above. The math kinda works out because a lot of people in my company might have grown up in families with good nutrition during their growth years. This is true for me as well. Even though my parents are closer to the national average, I grew up to be pretty tall which i assume was some lucky genetics and good nutrition. All makes sense till here.
BUT. The women in my company are still short. I think they might average around 5'2-5'3? And I was wondering why that is? A very interesting thing that a friend of mine said was that a lot of girls start feeling pressured to look thin from a very young age (especially in their growth years) and during that time they end up eating less and thus avoiding nutrition which might be resulting into this.I wanted to know how true that might be in your experience. Is this an actual thing? Or are there other factors that I might be unaware of? Or do i actually not know what 5'2 is and I might be mislabeling 5'4 as 5'2!!!
