The Grunts

Feels like an appropriate place to post this.

I’ve been working on marrying my experiences as a Marine infantryman and combat photographer with the Star Wars universe for nearly 15 years. My project is called Galactic Warfighters, a boots-on-the-ground POV of the faceless troops of the Galactic Empire and Galactic Republic.

I photograph in 1/6 scale and mesh real-world weaponry and gear to tether the two worlds closer together. Everything in these images was captured in-camera.

As I continue this work, I think I’ll lean even more into the vibes of the Global War on Terror (GWOT), as that’s the conflict I was raised in and eventually participated in.

Thanks for looking, gang

Show of Force

A joint terminal attack controller (center) and their fire support team observe a TIE Interceptor move to perform a show of force over a compound regular forces began taking heavy effective fire from while on patrol.

Joint terminal attack controllers direct combat air and space craft in the execution of close air support. Serving as Imperial Navy pilots for the first leg of their careers, aviators will spend a tour as a JTAC with an infantry unit before returning to a squadron to resume their regular duties.

1/6 scale figures. 1:18 scale vehicle. Always practical. Always in-camera. Generative remove and the clone stamp tool were used heavily to erase the hard and soft supports of the vehicle.

This photograph is part of my larger series Galactic Warfighters, where I blend my experiences as a Marine infantryman and combat photographer with the Star Wars universe. I’ve been using it lately to explore late empire and the Global War On Terror, the United State’s longest conflict.

I photographed NCR Rangers from Fallout New Vegas

Spent about a year planning and drove from across the country to meet at the Michigan Dunes at Silver Lake for a weekend with these folks. We wanted to tell a story and settled on a simple long-range patrol day-in-the-life.

I Photographed NCR Ranger Cosplayers in the Michigan Dunes

Had a wild day of shooting with some awesome costumers. We planned this shoot over the course of a year and executed last weekend.

Imperial troops attempt to cross a danger area amidst withering fire from Kyber mine workers sympathetic to the Rebellion in the deep canyon mines of Tatooine.

Interdiction forces have been deployed across the outer rim territories to quell mass labor uprisings after news of a successful raid of military installations in the Scariff system became widely known. The Office of Imperial communications, nor the Imperial Security Bureau have disclosed why the Rebel Alliance attacked the Scariff system.

1/6 scale. Wire supports were digitally removed. All
In-camera otherwise.
