New watcher!

I just started watching 2 days ago and am halfway thru season 2. Omg I love Zoey so much!

I tried watching the show twice before and never could get past the first episode. Then I saw clips of Jackie’s better nursing moments on Instagram and decided to give it another shot. I’m so glad I did. It’s just the perfect show. I’m in the healthcare field amd am surprised that the lack of hardcore medical storylines still interests me. It’s just enough to satisfy me but not bore a lay person.

Anyways just had to share.

Super awful bad day yesterday

A girl that hired in the same day as me was the 2-10 which is the main phleb for that time period. I come over when our outpt lab closes to finish my shift helping. There was another newbie with her. It was a freakin mess. Specimens needing received all over the place. Missing blood, blood that was never drawn and the ed calling us, patients on the board past due for draws and people just sitting in their chair.

The main girl had made a comment about an ED patient that she wasn’t going back to do someone else could figure it out. I didn’t catch anymore than that and she never specifically said his name or draw time.

I Am about to go home for the night, but thought about staying over to help which I expressed to the lab assistant. I see a patient way past due on the board and grab my tray to go draw him. It is the guy. She had said something about his man parts and I walk into a full Monty situation. So I ignore that and try to draw and missed both times. It dawns on me that she was just going to leave him on the board even though she’s the only phleb scheduled past this time. Who did she think was going to go get him?

So I tell him I’m sorry I missed (he was kind of a perv) return to the lab, hand her the orders and say you get to go draw him anyways. The lab assistant asks if I texted our boss about staying over (I’m already 45 minutes past my shift) and I said nope. Going home.

I’m worried I’m going to get into trouble but o wrote it all down when I left work because if I am going down they are both going with me. I did 3 baskets of their work over in outpatient as well. They are both 19 and have never worked before let alone in a busy lab. The girl that hired in the same day as me has a week less training because she went on vacation and still got out of training the same day as me. I don’t really think it’s fair because she clearly isn’t ready to be on her own.

Anyways I was up all night worried. I’m off today then back in tomorrow.

Saw something at work today

And wanted to know if I’m the o ly one going 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫
I’m a new phleb but not new to healthcare. I’m older. Another new phleb who is 19 had an incident today where she dropped the green top right into the sharps box with the needle and was walking the pt out as she joked about it and asked for help to retrieve the vial.

ES came and unlocked the box but it was still very difficult to open. New girl wanted to put her hand down into the container. That’s weird right? Cause she and her trainer (age 20) thought it was funny and like what was the worse that could happen and what was it you could get thru needle sticks? HIV? Something.

I walked away and refused to even be in the same room as they pried the sharps container open. I got busy with a Patient and they got the blood out of the sharps container.

Maybe I’ve been away from healthcare too long but I was completely mind boggled. In paramedic school we were taught that ALL sharps and fluids are treated like they are aids/hiv. This was in 2009. Have the standards changed or were these two complete idiots?

Please help! Gabapentin making husband forgetful

My husband started on 300 mg at night time for restless leg syndrome 2 years ago. He also has bipap. He’s 250 lbs 6’ 48 years old. Taking glp-1 for weight loss Has depression, anxiety anger issues. Last year his dr upped his dose to 300 mg-3 times a day due to sciatica. We ended up dropping the midday dose because it was making him drowsy.

Now he’s saying he’s forgetting entire conversations or rewording them in a way that makes no sense. His dad died from rapid onset dementia 4 years ago and he’s extremely paranoid that’s happening to him.

I’m making him go to his pcp to reevaluate his meds because this is insanity. Basically he’s saying if I don’t document everything we speak about that he can’t be held responsible for the words he says or agreements he makes because his memory is fuzzy.

Is it really like this? Because I’m ready to leave him over it because Ithink he’s just an ass.

They were all only children almost

Andrea has siblings but they’re irrelevant because she lives with his grandma and then Brenda and Brandon are obviously not only children but they are the same age. Erin comes into David and Kelly’s life but otherwise-no siblings. Just a bunch of rich only children. My observation as an original fan.
