Creating home studio!

Recently moved and blessed with an extra bedroom to create a home dance studio!

Marley, subfloor and tape from Dance Flooring Inc
Mirrors from amazon
Lamps from fb marketplace
Souvenir pointe shoes from OBT
Barre is Vita Barre

We have mostly carpeted rooms, so the floor is a bit squishy. However, jumps feel extra cushioned, which is really nice.

Will organize and decorate with time. I love these tulip lamps and would like to decorate that compliment them, I think in an art nouveau style(?) Truthfully, I don’t have an eye for decorating, so suggestions are welcome!

Thanks for viewing, happy dancing!!

Music Knowledge for Musicality

Hi all!

Beginner adult rec dancer here.

I saw this video pop up on my fyp and I found it incredibly informative for the basics of counting music and theory. The second half of the video about ballet phrasing of an 8 count phrase in relevance to music counting was so great to see notationally and his explanation was digestible.

I have a background in music and when I started ballet, I was so blessed to have this knowledge as it gave me an advantage to incorporate musicality early on.

I highly recommend beginners to consider their music knowledge and possibly dedicate some time to understanding it. Imo, ballet and music are partners in crime. Being able to count/feel the 1/down beat of a measure and the ballet phrase can really help to stay on the music and allow for more musical expression.

Of course, choreo retention is its own beast. But having some musical understanding can go a long way.

Hi all!!

Will be moving out to OK in September and looking for ballet classes.

I’ve reached out to Tulsa Ballet Co. and will be looking into taking their adult classes but I want to continue to do my 4.5+ hours a week of ballet. I’ve been reaching out and looking up studios that potentially serve the adult community. But I do understand it’s tougher for smaller towns.

I confirmed with Heather’s Dance Studio that they have ballet classes which sounds like a series. So will connect with them for their fall schedule when they have it.

Just looking for some insight on the adult ballet community out on northern OK. What level are the classes at? (Especially the elementary level at Tulsa, which was the level recommended to me) Is there a fairly big community? Which studios offer adult classes? Preferably minimum 90 mins per classes. How’re the drop ins? What’re opinions:experiences at the studios that offer adult classes?

Thank you for any and all information.

Happy dancing!!
