Generac 18kwH Failed on First Storm

We live in an area where storms come through often. It’s not uncommon for power to go out for a day, even up to a week. We’ve used smaller portable generators (Champion, Honda) for a number of years but decided to finally upgrade to the whole house. We had to choose between Generac and Kohler, but chose Generac because all of our neighbors were putting them in too. In fact, we all used the best electric/plumbing company in our city that is an official distributor. 2 months later and the next big storm comes in and brings down the power for days. Within 2 days, three of the 4 Generac generators had catastrophic failure. Of those 3, 2 can be fixed with extensive parts repair, while the other one needs fully replaced. Ours just needs parts replaced (luckily), but for the astronomical price I paid to have this all put in, it shouldn’t have happened in the first place.
Does this seem unusual to anyone here? I am new to whole home generators, but this seems beyond unacceptable.

Fully Loaded

Thule roof box and two electric bikes on the hitch-mounted Thule carrier. The back of the car is also fully loaded with camping gear. On average, about a 10% loss in efficiency due to the drag and weight. Still, a very smooth and stress-free 250 miles. The route I took had plenty of fast chargers, which I was surprised by since I am off the beaten path. I never had to use a Tesla station, but nice knowing they are available now. Cheers to EV road trips!

51M, Left Handed

Hello everyone, I’ve been fascinated by palmistry for years, but I’ve never had a real reading. I’ve been told I have some fascinating and unique lines, but that’s it. I would love some thoughts on career, family, love, and where I go from here in my life. Thank you!
