Confused by filter threads
Update: Part of a filter or reversing ring stuck in the threads. Managed to persuade it out with one of those silicon grips for opening jars 😂

So I'm new to film photography in general. I've been experimenting with an Olympus OM-20 with a Zuiko 50mm f1.8 lens. Been loving it so far.
I've recently picked up another one as a gift and have been getting it set up with various accessories before gifting but I'm confused by the filter threads.
So the first image is my lens where the threads are on the inside of the ring. As expected, a 49mm diameter filter and lens cap fits into the lens.
The second image is the "newer" lens. This lens has threads on the outside of the ring? The same 49mm filter can only be attached backwards, and the 49mm lens cap will not fit on the lens.
I'm not sure if this was a design change in later versions of the lens or if there is something wrong with my lens?
Is there an adapter I can get to convert it from an external to an internal thread?
