We at Bonzai Bikes have been discussing the idea of experimenting with a coaster brake bicycle for the Indian market and wanted genuine feedback from the cycling community here.
The idea is more around:
- single-speed simplicity
- coaster brake hub (pedal backwards to brake)
- clean cable-free aesthetics
- retro / urban cruiser styling
- low maintenance

Globally, coaster bikes are popular in cruiser and lifestyle cycling categories, but India hasn’t really explored this segment seriously yet.
We feel there might be a niche audience for urban commuting
At the same time, we understand Indian roads and riding conditions are very different, so we wanted honest opinions before experimenting further.
